Husband interviews wife re: Koh Lipe
1. After travelling to Thailand over 20 times - I finally made it to koh Lipe. Wish it didn’t take me so long to get there- honestly it’s a bit of pain to get too but totally worth it
2 Koh Lipe is the closest Thai island to the Malaysian boarder.
3 We flew into Malaysia, with a quick stop in KL and then through to Langkawi. All the transfer speedboat leave in the morning, so we had to stay overnight in Langkawi & get the ferry to koh lipe the next morning (see my video on how the process works)
4. When we left Koh Lipe we travelled back a different way - 1.5 hrs boat trip to thai coast, 2 hr bus transfer trip to Hat Yai airport, then flight to Bangkok. Booked it through 12GO (they handled the whole transfer from Koh Lipe boat & bus transfer through to airport). It was a really smooth experience.
5. Other options to get to Koh Lipe: boat trip from Phuket (4 hrs) or from Ko Lanta etc.
6 When we go to Koh Lipe again we probably wouldn’t go via Malaysian again - we preferred getting to Koh Lipe from Hat Yai (and staying in Thailand)
7. A too accommodation recommendation - stay at Wapi Resort - in a beach front room/bure . Lovely people, great location, quiet but still close enough to walking street. Chill vibe, rustic but great value for money #travel #thailand #kohlipe #over50 #travelrecommendation
Having visited Thailand over 20 times myself, I can totally relate to the excitement and challenges of finally making it to Koh Lipe. This hidden gem, close to the Malaysian border, offers a serene escape that requires a bit of effort to reach but rewards travelers with pristine beaches and a laid-back atmosphere. From personal experience, the transfer process is an adventure in itself. Arriving via Langkawi with an overnight stay can be a nice way to break up the journey, but catching the ferry from Hat Yai after a boat ride to the Thai coast makes for a smoother trip entirely within Thailand. Booking transfers through trusted services like 12GO ensures hassle-free connections from boat to bus to airport. Accommodation at beachfront resorts like Wapi Resort really enhances the experience. The rustic charm and peaceful vibe, coupled with proximity to lively walking streets, creates a perfect balance between relaxation and entertainment. The quiet mornings on the beach, stunning sunrises, and friendly locals make it easy to unwind and soak in the island’s peacefulness. I highly recommend staying at least five nights to fully appreciate the island’s tranquility and natural beauty. Visiting during the shoulder or off-season means fewer crowds and more peaceful moments. Enjoying cocktails by the beach while watching the sunset is a perfect way to end each day. What adds to the charm is the diversity of visitors, from younger backpackers to those in their 50s and beyond, all drawn to Koh Lipe's unique blend of rustic beauty and vibrant island culture. Whether it’s your first visit or a return trip, Koh Lipe offers an unforgettable Thai island experience worth the effort of getting there.
