Call me ‘old-school’ but…
This little lesser know pocket of Bangkok is still my personal favourite! Yes, it's a nostalgic area for me (I came here the first time over 30yrs ago!) But I still think it's gold and every time i'm in Bangkok I make sure to spend some time here: Some Tips:
1. visit in the day / afternoon (but leave before the evening)
2. catch the public ferry to Phra Arthit wharf and then walk up to Rambuttri Alley from there.

Banglamphu is truly one of Bangkok's best neighbourhoods, offering a unique blend of old-world charm and vibrant street life that has captivated visitors for decades. Having explored this area myself, I can attest to its nostalgic atmosphere – it feels like stepping back in time while still being in the heart of a bustling city. One of the highlights of Banglamphu is its accessibility. Taking the public ferry to Phra Arthit wharf is not just practical but also a scenic journey you won't want to miss. From the wharf, a leisurely walk up Rambuttri Alley immerses you in the local culture, street art, quaint cafés, and lively markets. I personally find visiting during the day or early afternoon ideal. The light is perfect for photography, the streets are lively but not overcrowded, and you get to experience authentic local interactions. As evening approaches, the area transforms, becoming more tourist-centric and busy, which can detract from its unique charm. Besides exploring, Banglamphu offers great street food – a must-try for any traveler wanting to taste authentic Thai flavors. The small eateries and food stalls deliver incredible dishes at affordable prices, adding to the overall experience. For older travelers or anyone who appreciates a low-key yet culturally rich environment, Banglamphu remains a hidden treasure. Its blend of history, accessibility, and genuine local atmosphere is hard to find in other parts of Bangkok. This area’s enduring appeal lies in its ability to evoke nostalgia while still offering fresh experiences each time you visit.
