Vintage Cakes: A Sweet Taste of the Past

Ingredients:

• 1 box yellow cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the box)

• 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, melted

• 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

• 1 can (20 oz) pineapple slices, drained (reserve juice)

• 10-12 maraschino cherries

Instructions:

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish or a round cake pan.

2. Prepare the topping: Pour melted butter into the bottom of the pan and sprinkle brown sugar evenly over it.

3. Arrange pineapple & cherries: Place pineapple slices over the brown sugar, and put a cherry in the center of each slice.

4. Prepare cake batter: Follow the instructions on the cake mix box, substituting the water with the reserved pineapple juice for extra flavor.

5. Pour & bake: Carefully pour the batter over the pineapple slices. Bake according to the box instructions (typically 25-35 minutes) or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

6. Cool & flip: Let the cake cool for about 10 minutes, then carefully invert it onto a serving plate.

7. Serve & enjoy! Let cool slightly before serving.
