Some Chrome add-ons secretly capture user chat data with the AI itself.

According to a report by The Hacker News website, it has been noted that some of the Google Chrome add-ons available for download on the Google Chrome Web Store have the ability to capture data that users talk to, command, communicate with a variety of AI (Artificial Intelligence or Artificial Intelligence), spanning OpenAI ChatGPT, Anthropic Claude, Microsoft Copilot, DeepSeek, Google Gemini, xAI Grok, Meta AI, and Perplexity. The add-ons are optional for access to a virtual personal network, or a VPN (Virtual Private Network) called Urban. VPN Proxy by this add-on is an add-on with a Web Store rating of up to 4.7. This add-on is available on the Microsoft Edge web browser through the Microsoft Edge Add-ons Marketplace with up to 1.6 million active downloads.
But despite its high popularity and promise to take care of user privacy, the 5.5.0 version of the update that was released in July returns with the AI storage of those who use this add-on service with JavaScript to collect data every time an AI chat bot is used. After the script has been fired on the web browser, the script will replace the web browser API to handle network requests (network requests) in the area of fetch () and XMLHttpRequest ().
