diffusing >> air drying or plopping

I prefer to diffuse my hair dry vs air drying or plopping.

I have way less frizz using a blow dryer because it seriously takes my hair 6-8 hours to air dry and that’s wayyy to much time for stuff to happen to my wet hair.

I get a ton more volume especially at the roots and it’s overall more convenient for me. I’ve gotten in the habit of always using a leave in or curl cream with a heat protectant 🦋

... Read moreFinding the perfect drying method for my curly hair has been a journey, one filled with trial and error! For years, I cycled through air drying and plopping, always hoping for that magical frizz-free, voluminous result. But honestly, it often felt like I was battling against my own hair. Let's talk about air drying first. Oh, the patience it requires! My hair, in particular, seems to take an eternity to dry – I'm talking a full 6 to 8 hours. While it's tempting to just let nature take its course, this long drying time often meant a lot of things could go wrong. I'd typically end up with significant frizz as my curls slowly dried, especially on humid days. Plus, I found my roots would often fall flat, leaving me with gorgeous ends but lacking that overall volume I craved. It just wasn't giving me the consistent, bouncy curls I dreamed of. Then came plopping. This technique, where you wrap your hair in a microfiber towel or cotton t-shirt, sounded like a game-changer. It certainly helped to absorb excess water and could sometimes give me better definition. However, for my hair type, plopping alone wasn't enough to tackle the frizz completely, nor did it significantly decrease drying time compared to just letting it hang. My roots still struggled for lift, and I often found my curls could feel a bit compressed or misshapen if I wasn't careful. It was an improvement, but not the holy grail. That's when I truly embraced diffusing, and let me tell you, it completely transformed my curly hair routine! If you've ever wondered 'what does diffusing hair mean,' it's essentially using a blow dryer with a special attachment (the diffuser) that disperses the air gently, mimicking natural drying but with control. The difference for me was night and day. First off, the decreased drying time is a huge win. Instead of waiting half a day, I can have my hair mostly dry and set in a fraction of that time. This alone prevents so much frizz because my wet hair isn't exposed to the elements for hours on end. The gentle heat helps to set the curl pattern quickly and efficiently. But the biggest benefit? More volume, especially right at the roots! This was always my biggest struggle. With diffusing, I can gently lift my roots and direct the airflow, creating incredible lift that lasts. I use a technique where I start by hovering the diffuser around my head to dry the outer layer, then I gently cup sections of my hair with the diffuser, pushing it up towards my scalp. Focusing on the roots for a bit longer really helps. To ensure my curls stay healthy and protected, I always make sure to prep my hair properly. Before I even think about drying, I apply a generous amount of a good leave-in conditioner, followed by my favorite curl cream to help define my curls. And because I'm using heat, a reliable heat protectant is non-negotiable. This combination ensures my hair not only looks great but feels healthy and strong. So, for anyone with curly hair who's tired of frizz, lacking volume, or waiting endlessly for your hair to dry, I highly recommend giving diffusing a try. It truly made all the difference for me, giving me consistently defined, voluminous, and frizz-free curls in a fraction of the time. It's truly my go-to method now!

Common Mistakes When Fighting Frizz✨
Frizz happens for various reasons: humidity, not letting your protective style fully set, hair damage, your curl pattern’s natural propensity toward frizz and more. With frizz having so many causes, figuring out how to stop frizzy hair can be challenging. Still, it’s possible to prevent and control

Why I stopped pixie diffusing my wavy/curly hair✨
Pixie diffusing works wonders for extra volume, however it frequently caused my hair to dry wonky the closer it got to my root. This is especially true for my bottom layers as they tend to dry in a looser pattern and don’t want to “curl” up into the diffuser (this is totally normally to have multip
