What I’m doing after graduating from music school

As some of you might already know, I’m planning to get my second bachelors in education. But in the mean time, I’m mostly locked in as a content creator, and more-or-less a piano teacher 😂

I’m currently teaching piano to 2 students at an academy, although it’s not the ideal level I want to teach but I thought it’s a good experience so I just kept going.

Besides that, I’ve been updating my resume in preparation for teaching positions in the future. I’ve just finished counting my volunteer hours too.

Ever since I started 4th year last year, I wasn’t really able to keep up with content creation, but now I’m back trying to create my presence again!

... Read moreGraduating from music school opens a variety of career paths that blend passion, skill, and education. Many graduates, like this author, find themselves leveraging their musical training into part-time teaching roles, even if the students or teaching environment aren't ideal. This hands-on experience is invaluable for developing teaching skills and understanding student needs, which is vital for anyone planning a future in education. Besides teaching, maintaining an active presence as a content creator allows music graduates to share their journey, connect with audiences, and keep their creativity alive. Balancing content creation with professional development such as updating resumes and accumulating volunteer hours demonstrates a proactive approach toward career growth in education and music. Pursuing a second bachelor's degree in education is a strategic step for music graduates who want to expand their qualifications, aiming for more formal teaching positions in the future. This can enhance pedagogical knowledge and open doors to schools and educational institutions that require certified educators. Tools like the "Lesson Book Edition Piano Adventures" by Nancy and Randall Faber are popular teaching resources that help structure piano lessons, making it easier for teachers to provide consistent and effective instruction. Effective resume management is crucial for music graduates transitioning careers. Keeping detailed records of volunteer hours, teaching experience, and educational accomplishments helps reflect dedication and readiness to prospective employers. Finally, digital platforms and social media, reflected in hashtags like #studentlife, #collegestudent, and #collegediaries, allow young educators and musicians to build community, share insights, and find support during their career transitions. This social engagement often provides motivation and learning opportunities beyond traditional classroom settings. In summary, life after music school is about combining teaching experience, continuing education, content creation, and professional development to pave the way for a sustainable and fulfilling career in music education and beyond.
