In this deeply personal moment, our host @iamlisaphillipsopens up about her own healing journey: from therapy and EMDR, to nature, survivor community, and learning to trust her voice again.
It took time. It took courage. And it took realizing that healing does not happen all at once.
But every step matters. 🫶
Healing is often portrayed as a sudden transformation, but my experience has shown that it's a layered and gradual process. Like many, I initially thought healing would look like an instant fix — a clear turning point where everything suddenly feels better. Instead, it took time, courage, and continuous small steps to move forward. One of the most profound tools I found on this journey was EMDR therapy. This approach helped me process deep emotional wounds that traditional talk therapy alone couldn't fully address. EMDR’s unique technique of bilateral stimulation brought clarity and relief that felt transformative, though it required immense trust and bravery to face those dark, vulnerable moments. Alongside therapy, immersing myself in nature provided a quiet solace that nurtured my well-being. Time spent outdoors, whether hiking, sitting by water, or simply breathing fresh air, gave me moments of calm and connection to the present. This healing was deeply personal and intertwined with my growing support from survivor communities—sharing stories helped me realize that I was not alone, and that my voice truly mattered. Throughout this process, I leaned heavily on meditation and podcasts focused on mental health and recovery. They offered inspiration and new perspectives that shaped my understanding of healing. Books also played a big role, enriching my knowledge and encouraging self-reflection. Perhaps most importantly, I learned to honor each step of my journey, no matter how small it seemed. Healing does not happen all at once; it’s made up of countless moments of courage, determination, and self-compassion. Facing doubts about my self-worth and path was incredibly challenging, but each time I chose to speak my truth, I felt stronger and more empowered. I encourage anyone walking a similar path to be patient with themselves and to recognize that healing looks different for everyone. Finding what resonates—whether therapy, nature, community, or creative expression—is key. Trusting your voice and honoring your journey can bring not only personal growth but also hope and strength to others.
