It’s officially SPI study time 📚✨

I just got my Understanding Ultrasound Physics book and I’m about to lock in for this exam. I know physics can feel intimidating, but I’m ready to take it chapter by chapter and really understand it — not just memorize it.

For my ultrasound students + sonographers who already passed the SPI… I need all the tips! 👀

What helped you the most?

Did you use Edelman, URR, Prepry, Penny, Quizlet, YouTube, or something else?

How long did you study before testing?

What topics should I focus on the most?

Drop your best SPI advice in the comments because your girl is about to start this journey and I’m trying to pass on the first try 🤞🏽💕

... Read moreIt's totally normal to feel a mix of excitement and nerves when you’re just starting your SPI exam prep, especially with Ultrasound Physics looming! I remember feeling the exact same way. That "Understanding Ultrasound Physics" book by Sidney K. Edelman (the Fourth Edition is a classic!) became my constant companion, and while tackling it solo is possible, I quickly learned the power of a good study partner, or even a whole study tribe! Finding the right people to study with can seriously transform your prep experience. Think about it: when you're stuck on a tricky concept from Edelman's book, having someone to talk it through with can make all the difference. Sometimes, just explaining a concept out loud to a peer helps solidify it in your own mind. Plus, study partners provide that much-needed accountability and motivation when you're feeling burnt out. So, how do you find your SPI study squad? Here are a few tried-and-true methods: Your Cohort is Key: Start with your classmates! Chances are, many of them are feeling just as overwhelmed (or excited!) as you are. Propose a study group, even if it's just for an hour a week to start. You might be surprised how eager others are to join forces. Online Communities: This is where platforms like Lemon8 shine! Don't hesitate to post in relevant sonography or student groups asking if anyone is looking for study partners. Other popular spots include Reddit (check out r/sonography or r/ultrasound), Facebook groups dedicated to sonography students or SPI prep, and even specific forums associated with popular prep resources like URR or Prepry. A simple post like, "Hey everyone, I'm diving into SPI prep and looking for study buddies – anyone else working through Edelman's Physics and want to connect?" can yield great results. Mentors & Upperclassmen: If your program has upperclassmen or a mentorship system, reach out! They’ve been through it all and might know people looking to form groups, or they could even offer invaluable insights themselves. Once you’ve found your study partners, make the most of your time together. We always found it helpful to assign specific chapters or topics from the Edelman book to each person, then take turns 'teaching' it to the group. This active teaching method really forces you to understand the material, not just memorize it. Quiz each other, work through practice problems from resources like URR or Prepry together, and discuss why certain answers are right or wrong. Focus on understanding the why behind the physics principles, not just the formulas. While study partners are fantastic, remember to also integrate individual study techniques. Active recall (testing yourself frequently) and spaced repetition (reviewing material at increasing intervals) are game-changers. And don't forget the popular online resources: Quizlet for flashcards, YouTube channels for visual explanations of complex physics topics, and practice question banks like Penny's or others. The SPI exam is a marathon, not a sprint. But by leveraging the right resources, like "Understanding Ultrasound Physics" by Sidney K. Edelman, and crucially, by building a supportive study community, you're setting yourself up for success. Keep an open mind, stay persistent, and remember that passing on the first try is absolutely achievable with dedication and a little help from your friends. Share your journey and let's all pass our SPI together!
