After a long winter and a hopeful spring, seeing the gardenbeds and fields explode with life feels like a warm hug from Mother Nature herself.
For me, cosmos are always at the top of the list. They're just so effortlessly elegant, aren't they? Their delicate petals fluttering in the breeze instantly bring a smile to my face. I love how they sway gently, almost dancing, and their range of colors from soft pinks and whites to fiery oranges and deep maroons is simply captivating. Plus, they're fantastic for cutting, making any vase in the house look like a professional floral arrangement. I've been dreaming of their return, picturing them once again filling my garden with their cheerful presence.
But beyond my beloved cosmos, there are so many other summer beauties that make my heart sing. Take sunflowers, for instance. How can you not feel happy looking at those majestic, sun-following giants? Their bright yellow faces are a symbol of pure joy and sunshine. I always try to plant a few each year, just to watch them grow taller than me and provide a feast for the local bees and birds. They’re a true showstopper!
Then there are zinnias. If you want a flower that screams 'summer party,' it's a zinnia! They come in practically every color imaginable and have such a wonderful, sturdy structure that makes them perfect for bouquets. I love mixing different zinnia varieties together – the pom-pom-like 'Benary's Giant' with the more delicate 'State Fair' types. They just keep blooming and blooming, giving you an endless supply of fresh flowers for weeks on end.
And let's not forget the sheer lushness of hydrangeas. Those big, bountiful globes of petals, whether they're classic blue, vibrant pink, or pristine white, add such a touch of elegance to any garden. Watching their colors change throughout the season, sometimes from soft green to deep purple, is a fascinating journey in itself. They truly make a statement and are so rewarding to grow.
Another summer favorite that fills the air with an intoxicating scent is lavender. Beyond its beautiful purple hues, the aroma of fresh lavender is incredibly soothing. Walking past a patch of it on a warm evening is one of life's simple pleasures, and it’s wonderful for attracting buzzing bees. I love to snip a few sprigs to dry and use in sachets, or even just keep a fresh bunch by my bedside.
Summer flowers aren't just about their looks; they're about the whole experience. They invite us to slow down, appreciate the beauty around us, and even get our hands dirty in the garden. Whether you're growing them from seed, picking them at a local farm, or simply admiring them in a park, they have a way of brightening even the cloudiest day. I can't wait to immerse myself in all the floral splendor this season has to offer, filling my home with cheerful blooms and my heart with pure joy. What are some of your absolute must-see flowers that bring you so much happiness?
