No Sew Fleece Blanket

I thought I’d share this super easy blanket idea.

Materials:

- scissors ✂️

- two 2.5 yard fleece fabrics 🧺

- ruler or tape measure 📏

Steps:

1. Lay both of your fleece pieces on top of each other

2. Keeping both sides of the blanket together as sides face, measure a 7″ square in each corner and cut out. ( See picture 3)

3. Cut the strips, 1″ wide and 7″ long, making sure to cut both pieces of fabric at the same time into fringe cuts. (See picture 4)

4. Begin to tie the pieces of fabric. Any method of tying is fine. (See picture 5)

5. Optional, but I like to wash my blanket using a delicate washing cycle and a normal or delicate drying setting.

6. Enjoy your new blanket ☺️

Beyond the basic steps I shared, there are so many ways to make your blanket truly special. First off, choosing your fleece is half the fun! I love experimenting with different colorful geometric patterns for one side and a complementary solid or plain blue side for the other. When you're picking, think about who the blanket is for. For a child, maybe a fun character print; for a living room throw, perhaps a neutral texture. Remember, the quality of your fleece really makes a difference in how soft and durable your finished blanket will be. Anti-pill fleece is a game-changer! As for size, my article focused on a standard throw, but you could easily adapt the fabric yardage for a smaller baby blanket or even a larger twin-size one. Just adjust your fabric amounts and the number of 1-inch wide by 7-inch long strips you'll be cutting. One thing I learned quickly is the importance of sharp scissors! It makes cutting those 7x7 inch squares from the corners and all those fringe strips so much easier and cleaner. Keeping your two layers of fleece perfectly aligned throughout the cutting process is also key to ensuring those tied fringe edges look neat and even. If your fabric shifts, you might end up with uneven fringes, which can be a bit tricky to tie. Speaking of tying, while my article mentioned any method is fine, I actually have a favorite knot now! I typically do a simple double knot to ensure it’s really secure and won’t come undone with washes. Some people like to make a small slit in each pair of fringes and pull one end through, which also creates a lovely, flat knot. Don't be afraid to try a few different styles on a scrap piece to see what look you prefer for your fringes! Once your beautiful blanket is complete, caring for it properly will ensure it stays super soft and cozy. While I mentioned a delicate wash cycle, I also like to use a gentle detergent and avoid fabric softeners, as they can sometimes reduce the fleece's softness over time. Tumble drying on low or air drying helps prevent pilling and keeps the fabric looking fresh. For those curious about other ways to make blankets without traditional sewing – like the popular 'loom to make blankets' trend – this no-sew fleece method is just one fantastic option! While I adore the simplicity of the tied fleece, other crafters enjoy finger knitting or arm knitting for quick, no-needle blankets. They create a different texture and look, but are equally satisfying for a no-sew project. Finally, don't forget the gift potential! These blankets make amazing personalized presents for birthdays, holidays, or just because. Adding a small, fabric-safe applique (non-sewn, of course!) or even just picking fabrics in someone's favorite colors makes it extra special. It's truly a craft that anyone can master, leading to endless cozy possibilities!
