WDYM just invest?? bro how…?

okayyyy so on part 2 of this journey.....part 2 isn't even about overcoming this thought yet... its STILL ON HOW STUCK I WAS... 😭😭

SOOO in my previous post mentioned that I knew I needed to do something with my money hereeeee!!!! and asked a friend to teach me how to invest... and he did .. but i did not do anything with the information... why? because me being me.. i don't do ANYTHING without knowing EXACTLY what im doing... i felt like i needed to know everything i can possibly know before starting to invest... so i didn't start... because of the crippling fear of the unknown...

so yeaaa 2 years later... i asked him the same question... can u teach me investment.... and yes ah he was right.. i did ask him that since y1... and i was already y3...

sooo what was the problem? why didn't i start? i simply did not dare... its not that i thought it wasn't important... im in accounting for goodness sake... i know its important.. i know inflation blah blah blah.. i know i NEED to... but i couldn't... 🫠🫠🫠

he said just dump it into snp 500... which is pretty fking good advice for a beginner... but damn i still could not do it.... 🥲

i was so so scared to lose my hard earn money (scared is a severe understatement) hehe? ... i have been working and working non stop.. and that amount in my bank account was my literal baby... seeing the number drop meant death to me... so to think that i have to take out money to invest??? and the investment might make me lose EVEN MORE?? nah uh no go man... not for me...

not just that... i was LOST... VERY VERY LOST... in this cold big scary world of investing?? how do i even start???? how to even invest? what does investment even mean?? where do i even buy this "snp 500" he was talking about? how do i read? how much was it? how do i know if i lost money? or "won"?? (crazy how i think its really like gambling) what is "snp 500" ??why did he ask me to j dump it in and close my eyes? whyyy??????? sosososo many questions.....

how can i just take money out of my bank? to put into this unknown thingyy? and close my eyes? how can i close my eyes when it’s literally my life savings 😭

it felt absurd. insane. reckless.

and honestly, as i’m typing this now... i can still feel the exact same fear i felt back then — that mix of anxiety, confusion, and GUILT for not being “brave enough” to start.

it’s not that i don’t want to invest… i just don’t get it 😭 AND I FELT STUPID and guilty for not being able to start... the irrational fear... and i knew EVERYONE ELSE around me is investing so why cant i just be brave enough to......

its funny how part 2 isn’t my breakthrough yet. it’s still the messy middle.

the part where i know what i should do, but i’m too scared to move.😧

because maybe that’s the realest part of the journey — the space between awareness and action.so yea… moral of the story? investing sounded easy till it was my money on the line 😭

but u know what… this is exactly where i found fulfilment.🫢😚

because i did overcome that fear — slowly, clumsily, but i did.

overcame it bit by bit, and now i’m teaching others to do the same…even my 18-year-old baby sis am teaching her HOW to start young and not just “u shud start young” heheheh

it’s wild to think i’ve become the person i needed back then. full circle moment hehehhehehehe🫶

... Read moreWhen I first heard about investing, especially putting money into something like the S&P 500, I was completely overwhelmed. The idea of losing my hard-earned savings felt terrifying. I had tons of questions like: What exactly is the S&P 500? How do I buy it? How do I know if I’m making or losing money? It all felt so complicated that I froze in place for years. One thing that really helped me push past this 'messy middle' phase was learning about dollar cost averaging—putting in a fixed amount regularly regardless of market highs or lows. This simple strategy helped me reduce the anxiety of timing the market perfectly because I realized consistency beats trying to guess market moves. Also, I discovered some beginner-friendly investing platforms and apps that make starting easy with low fees and clear information—things I wish I knew earlier. For example, platforms like Wealthfront or brokers that offer funds such as VOO (a popular S&P 500 ETF) helped me feel more in control. Another huge breakthrough was changing my mindset around risk and losses. Losing a little initially felt scary, but understanding market fluctuations came with learning that investing is a long game. It’s about growing wealth gradually, not gambling or quick wins. Lastly, teaching my younger sister how to invest early gave me even more confidence. When you share knowledge, it solidifies your own understanding and makes the process feel less daunting. If you’re stuck like I was, remember: it’s okay to be scared and to have questions. The key is to start small, learn as you go, and don’t let fear stop you from growing your financial future.
