We have been waiting for our custom front door since 2022, in 2023 the current door desperately needed a facelift so I started painting it. It’s started as a joke that we were going to paint it a different color each month (which we did) then it turned into holidays🤪 the Harry Potter door I painting in September of 2025 and liked it so much that it stayed around until my Doggo scratch the paint and it peel making it look silly 🤣😭 so here’s to started the new door for st Patrick’s day! #paintingprojects #paintingforfun #doorpainting #stpatricksday
Painting your front door can be an incredibly rewarding and creative home improvement project. From my experience, painting a door in different themes each month not only revitalizes your home's curb appeal but also sparks joy and seasonal celebration. One important tip I learned is to prepare the surface properly before painting. When dealing with older paint, especially if it is peeling, sanding the door smooth and applying a good quality primer makes a huge difference. For example, if your door requires multiple coats of white paint to cover previous colors or designs—as many DIYers ask—the key is patience and thin, even coats to avoid drips and uneven texture. I also discovered that certain paint finishes work better for exterior doors. Satin or semi-gloss finishes are ideal as they are more durable and easier to clean, unlike flat paint which can chip easily, especially if pets scratch the surface. This was a lesson learned when my dog accidentally damaged the Harry Potter door painting I loved so much. Moreover, incorporating themed painting projects, like holiday-specific designs, keeps the process fun and engaging. Celebrating occasions such as St. Patrick's Day with creative motifs can delight family and visitors alike. Lastly, protect your finished work with a weather-resistant clear topcoat to extend the life of your artwork and maintain vibrant colors throughout the seasons. This approach balances creativity with practicality, making door painting both a personal expression and a smart home update.
