iPadOS 18 Features we’ve been waiting for!

I use my iPad 90% for work, and I love all the new features we’re getting because this means I can already see my productivity going up with these features.

With this new iOS 18 dropping in September, I’ve put together some features coming to the iPadOS. Most of these are no different than the iOS features, but here’s the look on the iPad.

🩵 Screen customization:

you have the option to choose from automatic, dark, light or tinted apps. With tinted you can also change the colors to your preference. There’s also an option to set the apps icons small or large.

🤍Apps:

another cool feature with the apps is that you can pretty much place them anywhere instead of the traditional inline design they had with previous iOS.

🩵 messages:

We will now have an option to schedule messages to be sent at a specific time. I am personally very excited about this one.

🩵 Control center:

Apple has updated this center to be fully customizable. Not only that but there’s so much more options to choose from, it’s pretty nice.

🤍 Reader in Safari:

the reader got a new sleep look and has more options now such as the page summary and you can also listen to the article instead of reading it.

🩵 Love audio:

This one is also one of my favorites as you can record an audio in notes and get a love transcript of the audio. Pretty neat if you ask me.

🤍 Math in notes:

Yep you read that right. Your iPad will do the math for you as you’re writing stuff down. How cool is that?

Also to add we now get the full calculator on the iPad which is something I’ve been wanting for a while now 😩

2024/6/14 Edited to

... Read moreI remember back in older iPadOS versions – it felt like ages ago, maybe around iPadOS 13 or so – our home screens were so incredibly rigid. You had apps neatly lined up in a grid, and customizing them beyond changing your wallpaper was practically non-existent. It was functional, sure, but where was the real personal touch, the joy of making your device truly *yours*? That’s precisely why the new home screen customization in iPadOS 18 feels like such a revolutionary breath of fresh air! For me, being able to place apps anywhere on the screen is an absolute game-changer for my workflow. I can finally group related apps exactly where I want them, leaving strategic gaps for my beautiful wallpaper to shine through or to create visually pleasing and intuitive layouts. This isn't just about aesthetics; it's about optimizing my access to frequently used tools and crafting a digital space that feels truly organized and efficient, which in turn significantly boosts my day-to-day productivity. I’ve already rearranged my work-focused apps into a dedicated quadrant, leaving another area clear for quick-access personal apps, and it’s made such a difference in how quickly I can jump between tasks. And speaking of making your iPad truly yours, have you noticed the subtle yet impactful visual identity that iPadOS 18 introduces? From the very first moment you glimpse that bold '18' icon on the lock screen, often accompanied by the "New iPadOS 18 Features BETA" text (just like in the sneak peeks and screenshots I've been seeing!), you immediately get a sense that something fresh and exciting is happening. The new ability to tint app icons to perfectly match your chosen wallpaper, or simply to switch between small or large icon sizes, really empowers you to curate a unique and cohesive visual theme. I’ve personally been playing around with the tinted option, finding shades that complement my favorite backgrounds, and it makes such a remarkable difference in how polished and personal my iPad feels. It’s these thoughtful little details that elevate a device from just a tool into a genuine extension of your personal style and preferences. Now, let's dive into some productivity hacks that genuinely excite me, beyond just the visual upgrades. The Math in Notes feature, for instance, is an absolute lifesaver for someone like me who constantly jots down quick calculations for work or personal budgeting. Having my iPad instantly solve '3+3=6' or '8/2=4' right as I write or type it out is nothing short of magical. No more interrupting my thought process to switch to a separate calculator app or fumbling with a physical one. It keeps my workflow smooth and uninterrupted. And the fact that the full-featured Calculator app has finally made its way to iPadOS 18? Pure, unadulterated joy! I honestly can't tell you how long I’ve waited for this seemingly minor, yet incredibly significant, addition. For anyone doing serious number crunching, complex equations, or even just daily budgeting on their iPad, it’s a massive convenience. It integrates seamlessly with the Math in Notes, creating an incredibly powerful duo for anyone who needs to crunch numbers efficiently, from dedicated students tackling complex assignments to busy professionals managing finances. These features aren't just cool party tricks; they genuinely save precious time, reduce mental friction, and make my iPad an even more indispensable and powerful work companion than ever before.
