First Book of 2024

What a joy it is to start a new reading year! My first book of 2024, as you can see from my cozy setup, is the delightful "Kiki's Delivery Service" by Eiko Kadono. There’s something so comforting about settling in with a good book, a scented candle (mine has lovely ozone, aquatic, and moss scents!), and a mug featuring adorable Totoro characters. This Studio Ghibli-inspired read, with its charming story of a young witch finding her way, really set a magical tone for my reading journey this year. While "Kiki's Delivery Service" is a beautiful fantasy of self-discovery, it got me thinking about other fantastical realms I adore, especially the captivating world of fantasy romance books. If you're searching for the most popular fantasy romance books or simply the best fantasy romance books to get lost in, I have a few personal recommendations that might just be your next obsession. One series I absolutely must recommend is the A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) series by Sarah J. Maas. Oh my goodness, where do I even begin? Another series that has absolutely captivated me is Jennifer L. Armentrout's *From Blood and Ash*. This one is a bit darker, with vampires and a secret society, but the slow-burn romance and the tension between the main characters are just *chef's kiss*. The world-building is fantastic, and the twists and turns keep you hooked from the first page. It’s definitely a steamy read, perfect for those who enjoy a bit more heat with their fantasy. And how could I forget Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros? This book took the reading world by storm, and for good reason! It's a dragon-riding fantasy with high stakes, fierce characters, and a romance that sizzles. The action is non-stop, and the bond between rider and dragon is just incredible. It’s quickly become one of the best fantasy romance books out there, and I can totally see why everyone is obsessed. It's an absolute page-turner that you won't want to put down. For those who enjoy their stories on the go, many of these incredible romance fantasy books are also available as audiobooks. Listening to them adds another layer of immersion, making commutes or chores feel like an epic adventure. Whether you prefer the magic of Studio Ghibli for a gentle escape, or the intense passion of a fantasy romance, there's a book (or audiobook!) out there waiting to transport you.
