Small Garden vs Big Garden...You choose 🌱👩🏾‍🌾

Let me save you from garden burnout:😓 start smaller than your excitement.

One raised bed, a few containers, or a small patio setup is enough for your first season.

A huge garden sounds cute until you’re outside in May trying to water 47 plants and questioning all your life choices.😏

Start small. Learn your sun. Learn your soil. Then expand.

... Read moreFrom my experience, jumping straight into a large garden often leads to excessive stress and burnout, especially in the first season. When I first started gardening, I was eager to cultivate as many plants as possible, but quickly realized that watering dozens of plants daily was exhausting and unsustainable. Instead, focusing on a small garden setup such as one raised bed or a few containers allowed me to understand my garden's unique conditions better—like how much sunlight certain areas received and what soil amendments were necessary. Starting small also gave me the opportunity to experiment with different plants without feeling overwhelmed. I found that herbs like basil and leafy greens such as kale thrive well in smaller spaces and containers, making them perfect for beginners. Taking these small steps led to bigger harvests over time and built my confidence as a gardener. I also learned that garden size doesn’t necessarily equate to success; a well-planned small garden can be just as productive as a large one. Managing water, nutrients, and pest control is simpler in a compact area, which means more time to enjoy your plants rather than tending to them. For anyone new to gardening, my advice is: resist the temptation to go big too quickly. Start with manageable sections, observe how your plants respond to your environment, and gradually expand your garden as your skills and enthusiasm grow. This approach helped me avoid questioning all my life choices in the midst of a chaotic garden and instead enjoy the fulfilling process of cultivating my own green space.
