Start That Garden! 😍🌸🪻🌺🪴

I’ve been a plant mom for over a year now and I feel ready and confident in my abilities to go to the next step and grow fruits and veggies! 🥰

So of course, I thought why not just stop at target, seeing as they have everything I need to start and maintain a garden.🪴🌸🌻

Moment of transparency: I definitely lost about 3 out of the 5 plants I was growing due to me being away for a long period of time and my plants not getting enough sun, too much and or too little water. It’s okay to mess up and start again. 🤗

(Goal: Not to pay for onions, bell peppers or tomatoes.)

... Read moreHey plant parents! So, you've got your new garden gear from Target, just like I did, and you're ready to get those hands dirty outdoors! My initial excitement definitely hit a few bumps (who hasn't lost a plant or two?!), but I've learned so much about making an outdoor garden thrive, especially for beginners. Let me share some of my favorite tips to get you started on your own outdoor oasis, whether you're dreaming of a vibrant flower bed or a bountiful veggie patch. When I first started, I was so excited by all the organic seed packets – parsley, spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers! It's tempting to grab everything, but starting with easy-to-grow outdoor veggies like cherry tomatoes, bell peppers (my goal!), or even some robust herbs like basil or mint, can build confidence. For flowers, cosmos or sunflowers (both on those seed packets!) are gorgeous and relatively forgiving. Think about what will thrive in your local climate and how much sun your outdoor space gets. My experience taught me that too much or too little sun can be a real plant killer, so observing your space throughout the day is crucial for outdoor plants. Once you've picked your seeds, let's talk about setting up. I found those plantable seed starting pots really helpful for getting my babies going indoors before transplanting them outside. And those self-watering planters? A total game-changer for outdoor plants, especially if you're like me and sometimes forget to water! Make sure you use a good quality indoor/outdoor potting mix – the packaging mentioned preventing fungus gnats, which is a huge plus for container gardening. You'll want a mix that provides excellent drainage. And remember that 'Tip: Start small' from the seed pots? It's true! Don't overwhelm yourself with too many varieties at once; focus on a few successes to build your confidence. Plants need food too, as the plant food overlay reminded me! Regular feeding, especially for hungry fruit and vegetable plants, makes a big difference. I usually follow the package instructions, feeding every 7-14 days. And that cute mister? It's not just for aesthetics; it's great for giving newly transplanted seedlings a gentle drink or increasing humidity for certain plants that love it. I'm also always on the lookout for good deals on garden tools – a sturdy shovel and trowel are essential, and I've found that you don't always need to break the bank. Keep an eye out for seasonal sales or end-of-season clearances at local nurseries or even places like Target. Sometimes you can find amazing bargains on larger outdoor pots or even established plants! It's all about making your 'Green Thumb Garden' a reality without stressing your wallet. Don't be afraid to experiment! My journey has had its ups and downs, but every 'mess up' is a learning opportunity. The joy of harvesting your first homegrown tomato or seeing a sunflower bloom in your own backyard is truly priceless. Happy gardening, friends!

Say no to miracle gro if you’re planting organic. MG is full of fake and toxic ingredients that just ruin the “organic” sense of it all. Spend the extra couple dollars at HD or Walmart or a local nursery and get the organic soil options.
