... Read moreFrom my personal experience, embracing the truth in Psalm 139:14—"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made"—has been transformative. For years, I struggled with feeling "not enough" or behind in life, often measuring myself by performance or others' expectations. This mindset led to constant self-criticism and shame.
The simple but powerful practice of writing and speaking identity statements aloud helped me shift my perspective. Statements like "I am God's workmanship, not a mistake" and "My value is stable, even when my feelings aren't" became daily affirmations that grounded me. It wasn’t just about feeling better momentarily, but about accepting that my worth is rooted in a Creator who made me on purpose.
A key insight I discovered is that growth does not require perfection. "Growing without shame" allowed me to forgive myself for past mistakes and view setbacks as part of the journey, not as proof of failure. This mindset also helped me to stop bullying myself internally and instead cultivate self-compassion.
I encourage anyone feeling down or overwhelmed to take five minutes each night to reflect on these truths. Place your hand on your heart, breathe deeply, and ask God to show you how He sees you. Writing down the lies you’re releasing—like "I'm too much" or "I'm behind"—and replacing them with God’s truth can initiate deep healing.
Closing the exercise with a prayer asking for grace and courage to speak kindly to yourself can strengthen your resolve. Over time, I found that this spiritual practice not only healed my self-perception but inspired confidence and hope. You don’t have to earn your worth—it’s already been given. Remember, your value is stable because you are wonderfully made with purpose.
