If you're looking to capture some truly unique and vibrant memories, an 80s vibe is the way to go! First off, the *vibe*! Think bold colors, geometric patterns, and a whole lot of fun. For my shoot, we transformed a room into a retro haven. Inspired by the idea of a 'purple room styled with vintage posters' (just like I've seen in some of my favorite retro mood boards!), we plastered the walls with old band posters and movie ads. It instantly set the perfect nostalgic backdrop. And yes, we even had a cozy spot with a 'zebra blanket' and a 'colorful granny square blanket' for some chill, candid shots – it added so much texture! Next up: Outfits! This is where you can really go wild. I dug through thrift stores and my mom's old closet. We found a fantastic 'colorful jacket' – totally iconic for the era. Think acid-wash denim, neon windbreakers, high-waisted jeans, scrunchies, and big, teased hair. Don't forget those quirky accessories like layered necklaces, fanny packs, and statement earrings. We even had a 'pink hoodie' that perfectly fit the casual, retro-cool look. Locations & Props are key to making your 80s photo shoot pop. An arcade is a no-brainer! We found an old-school one and got some amazing shots of us playing a 'vintage arcade game,' just like 'Frogger' – the bright, star-patterned carpet really added to the authenticity. If an arcade isn't an option, create your own retro corner. A dial-up phone (we used a 'pink phone' prop!), a boombox, cassette tapes, and vintage magazines are perfect. Remember that 'LET'S GO vintage SHOPPING' sign from my setup? It was a fun prop, but also a reminder of where to find all these treasures! Thrift stores and online vintage shops are your best friends for props and outfits. For posing, think energetic and playful. Candid shots of laughing, dancing, or even pretending to chat on a landline phone work wonders. Don't be afraid to strike some power poses or lean into the dramatic, over-the-top expressions of the decade. Finally, a little bit about editing. To enhance that authentic 80s feel, I love adding a slightly grainy filter or a subtle vignette. Sometimes, a touch of neon glow or a slightly muted palette can instantly transport your photos back in time. An 80s photo shoot is such a fantastic way to express creativity and relive a super fun decade. I hope these tips inspire you to plan your own tubular adventure!
