How to get the usb format for CDJs & XDJs

When preparing your USB drive for use with Pioneer CDJs and XDJs, choosing the right format is crucial. Both FAT32 and EXFAT formats are supported, but EXFAT is often recommended due to its ability to handle larger files and compatibility with both Windows and Mac operating systems. To format your USB on a Mac, use Disk Utility: select your USB drive, choose "Erase," then set the format to "EXFAT" or "MS-DOS (FAT)" if FAT32 is needed. On Windows, right-click the USB drive in File Explorer, select "Format," and pick the appropriate file system. Keep in mind, using Rekordbox, the USB must be formatted in advance to one of these file systems before exporting your music and playlists. Rekordbox does not handle formatting itself but requires a properly formatted USB to function without errors. Also, make sure to safely eject your USB after transferring data to prevent corruption. From my experience, always test play your prepared USB on your CDJ or XDJ before a gig to avoid surprises. Remember, using USB sticks with high read/write speeds can significantly reduce load times and increase reliability during your sets. This is especially important when working with large libraries or high-resolution audio files.
