Record-long wait times stretch TSA officers amid travel surge, partial shutdown.
Lawmakers are set to leave for a two-week spring break despite record-long TSA lines and officers going unpaid. ICE agents are now being trained to help as many TSA officers call out.
As someone who recently traveled during this turbulent period, I experienced firsthand the impact of these record-long TSA lines. The surge in post-pandemic travel combined with staffing shortages due to the partial government shutdown created significant delays, sometimes stretching wait times well beyond what felt reasonable. It was frustrating but knowing that ICE agents had been trained to assist TSA officers helped ease some congestion at security checkpoints. Travelers are advised to allow extra time for airport security and monitor updates from airlines and TSA. Despite the challenges, this collaboration between agencies represents a practical solution when key personnel are unavailable due to pay issues or callouts. Hopefully, lawmakers will resolve the shutdown soon to restore full TSA operations and reduce stress for air travelers nationwide.
