Before Thyroidectomy

I woke up day one feeling like someone was choking me! I couldn’t breathe! They had to measure my neck to ensure I wasn’t having swelling! A little morphine and so many seconds later, I was good! Could’ve been shock but I’m still sore and tender! Skin around the area is very sensitive to touch! It was hard to sip water, it felt like it was going down so fast that I would cough! Smoothies and soups are very soothing! Don’t be afraid to go through this, but know everyone’s story is different! Today is day 3 post surgery! I try to walk around in my home just to get my blood flowing! No stretching!!!!!

They used a surgical glue to seal my incision! I’ve seen different types but this by far may be a cleaner healing solution! I still have some bruising around the area! Just ordered sheer scarves so I won’t scare people at work! I’ll keep you updated once I return!

... Read moreThyroidectomy is a significant surgery that many undergo for various reasons, including thyroid cancer or Graves' disease. Before undergoing the procedure, it's important to educate yourself on what to expect, including potential complications and recovery tips. Post-surgery, patients typically face a range of challenges, such as throat discomfort and the need for dietary adjustments. Soft foods like smoothies and soups can provide comfort during recovery, making them essential staples during the early healing phase. Furthermore, while using surgical glue for incisions has become increasingly popular due to its clean healing effects, it's vital to monitor bruising and sensitivity in the surrounding areas. Lastly, don't forget to consider psychological support or joining communities of other thyroidectomy patients for shared experiences and encouragement during your journey to recovery.
