how I found out my cholesterol is high at 27

& what I’ve been doing to lower it!

I didn’t think I would be dealing with this at 27 🥲 I thought cholesterol was only something I’d worry about after turning 50 😂

Turns out i was wrong! I was diagnosed with PCOS last year and that was the reason I was feeling so awful!

Since PCOS is a metabolic issue, it can affect cholesterol levels & this was one of the markers indicating I have PCOS.

over the past year I’ve been working hard on improving my levels aka lowering bad cholesterol & raising the good! I’ve been doing this with small daily habits 🫶🏻

Omega-3’s are my best friend because they decrease bad & raise good cholesterol!! I take a supplement daily but also try to eat high omega-3 foods like wild caught salmon, seeds & nuts.

I cook with healthy oils like olive oil & avoid ultra processed food that contains high saturated fats or trans fats.

I try to stay active & workout 3-4 times a week which is so good for heart health!!

Because of the PCOS, I’ll have to watch my cholesterol levels throughout my life, but I’m just grateful I have a diagnosis ✨

I hope this helps xx

... Read moreAt just 27, many think cholesterol issues are years away, but my experience changed that perspective. After being diagnosed with PCOS, I found that my cholesterol levels were affected due to this metabolic condition. To combat high LDL cholesterol and bolster HDL levels, I've adopted several daily habits. Incorporating omega-3 fatty acids is crucial; I take high-quality omega-3 supplements and enjoy foods rich in these healthy fats, like wild-caught salmon and nuts. This helps in reducing bad cholesterol and increasing good cholesterol. Besides that, I only cook with heart-healthy oils, such as olive oil, and consciously avoid processed foods high in saturated and trans fats. Physical activity is another pillar of my approach. I maintain a routine of 3-4 workouts per week, which has proved beneficial not just for managing cholesterol but also for overall heart health. Frequent check-ups allow me to monitor my cholesterol closely, ensuring I stay informed and proactive about my cardiovascular wellness. With constructive lifestyle changes, I aim to keep my cholesterol in check for life.
