feminine hygiene lessons I wish I knew sooner!!

these would have saved me in my early 20’s 🥲

bc I struggledddd from like 19-24!! My mom didn’t teach me any of this stuff (still love you tho) & I learned the HARD way.

feminine hygiene effects our overall health! I had to take antibiotics probably 20 times for BV in 2 years. It lead to me having horrible acid reflux, bloating, decreased immunity, & has taken years to restore.

struggling with my feminine health also effected my self esteem & worth. It was so isolating bc I felt so embarrassed i had BV & yeast infections 🥲 but these infections are so common (not normal) but SO common & can easily be treated.

Diet & lifestyle is the key to keeping infections away & restoring balance to the gut & vagunal microbiome.

do you feel like you were taught enough growing up??

... Read moreFeminine hygiene profoundly impacts overall health, including digestion, immunity, and emotional well-being. Chronic bacterial vaginosis (BV) and yeast infections can cause discomfort and recurrent antibiotic use, which may lead to issues such as acid reflux, bloating, and weakened immunity. One major cause of these infections is an imbalance in the vaginal microbiome, often influenced by diet, stress, and lifestyle habits. Maintaining a balanced vaginal microbiome requires a holistic approach. A diet rich in probiotics—such as those containing Lactobacillus strains clinically proven to help prevent BV—supports healthy bacterial populations in the gut and vagina. Avoiding synthetic feminine washes and opting for gentle, fragrance-free soap and warm water prevents irritation that may disrupt pH balance. Additionally, lifestyle choices like not wearing tight leggings for extended periods, especially after workouts, help maintain breathability and proper vaginal environment. Birth control pills, while commonly used, do not correct hormonal imbalances causing painful periods or infections; they only pause the menstrual cycle temporarily. For individuals with conditions like PCOS, elevated LH hormone levels can decrease beneficial vaginal bacteria, further increasing infection risks. Open communication with healthcare providers is crucial if infections recur, as untreated partners may contribute to reinfections. Natural supplements like D-mannose can help reduce urinary tract infections (UTIs) by preventing bacterial adhesion after sexual activity. By understanding these feminine hygiene lessons early, women can better advocate for their health, avoid unnecessary treatments, and improve self-esteem. Education on feminine wellness is key to preventing isolation and embarrassment associated with common but manageable infections.

I remember when I was younger I would never talk about vagina health, discharge and infection because of that fact you talked about; feeling gross! When actually it’s something super normal, every girl goes through!
