How did I went from being a delivery driver/rider since 2016 to towing industry? Funny thing is. Yes, both are professional jobs. After doing deliveries for a decade, I’ve told myself that enough of deliveries. It’s time to venture into something new. And I do like attending to accidents, incidents and recoveries. Yes, I’ve tried signing on with SCDF, but takde rezeki. So what would be my next better option? Towing. Funny huh? But Alhamdulilah, all Praises to Allah SWT for this opportunity
It wasn’t an easy transition. I suffered and struggled with tons of challenges. Infact, until now. But insha’allah boleh. There were times where I really wanted to go back to van life. Coz sape tak nak? Van bawak balik, pastu boleh tompang ramai orang. But that’s it? You know? I wanted more challenge in life in terms of worklife, so I decided to jump the latter. Took on the challenge of being a Towing technician onsite.
But, In the end, I followed my ego and left my previous towing company, and took 2 months break from towing and I really sat down and asked myself. I really wasn’t comfortable anymore with this industry. But with self encouragement, I got back on my feet and came back to towing. And also, I am really grateful for this boss who took me in. Knowing that his company is one of the biggest, and lots of towing. And me being the least experience, he still took me in.
I keep telling myself daily, to always try to be better, and don’t give up. No matter the cost. There’ll always be ups and downs. But, insha’allah dengan izin Allah SWT, kite sincere dengan kerje kite. Insha’allah smooth.

... Read moreMaking a career change after many years in one field is never easy, especially when it involves moving from a delivery driver to a towing technician. From my own experience and what I have learned from others, transitioning into the towing industry requires not only technical skills but also mental resilience and adaptability.
Firstly, the towing profession demands quick decision-making and the ability to handle stressful situations such as accidents and vehicle recoveries. Unlike delivery driving, which mainly focuses on punctuality and navigation, towing involves working onsite at accident scenes, which can be physically demanding and emotionally taxing. It is important to be prepared for long hours and sometimes unpredictable conditions.
Secondly, continuous learning is fundamental. Many who enter towing start with little experience, much like the story shared. Taking the initiative to learn from more experienced colleagues or attending professional training courses can hugely boost confidence and competence. It’s rewarding when you see progress and know you’re contributing to road safety and helping stranded drivers.
Another key aspect is maintaining a positive mindset. There will be moments of doubt or temptation to return to the old job's comfort zone — such as the ‘van life’ mentioned — but embracing challenges is what leads to growth. Staying motivated by setting small goals and reminding yourself of the larger picture can keep the momentum going.
Finally, it cannot be overstated how crucial good support is. Finding a welcoming workplace or a boss willing to give opportunities despite limited experience plays a vital role in one’s career advancement. It’s a mix of personal effort and external encouragement that helps in overcoming hurdles.
For anyone considering a similar path, my advice is to stay patient, keep learning, and remain sincere in your work. With dedication and the right attitude, the towing industry offers a fulfilling career for those willing to take the leap.
