Where are all my military people at? What branch did you serve in? Details on my guys
🍋 Thank you for your services it is much appreciated and will never be forgotten. So out of respect for my cousin I can not post an actual pic of my uncle but she is fine with this.
🍋He served in the Army back in the 50s in the Korean Conflict. My dad served in the Army as well, he was stationed in Germany during the tail end of Vietnam as a short order cook. e
He wanted to be a sharp shooter but that's the assignment they gave him.
He was not happy about it at first.
Crazy how things work out. He came home to be a bbq cooker as a hobby.
As a profession he mainly did trucker, hotshot and front end loader in road construction
🍋He competed in the Houston Rodeo Cookoff and at various local bars.
Sadly neither of these soldiers are with us anymore. That's why I'm doing these Gift Baskets for Veterans in Assisted Living in their honor. Also to remind these Veterans who are risk of social isolation and loneliness. That they are loved, appreciated and their service will never be forgotten.
... Read moreSupporting veterans goes beyond mere words; it’s about showing tangible appreciation and recognizing their sacrifices. Many veterans, like those who served in the Korean Conflict or were stationed in places like Germany during the Vietnam era, often face challenges after their service, especially when they reach assisted living facilities. Loneliness and social isolation can take a toll on their well-being.
Creating and gifting personalized baskets filled with treats, essentials, or tokens of appreciation is a meaningful way to connect and honor their service. From homemade BBQ sauces recalling a veteran’s post-service hobby to favorite snacks and comfort items, these baskets serve as a reminder that they are not forgotten. It's also a way to build a community of support around veterans by involving local organizations, family members, and neighbors.
In Houston, where there is a growing community of veterans, initiatives like these foster a spirit of gratitude and respect. Whether you served in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard, these small gestures resonate deeply. Personally, I’ve found that every gift basket delivered sparks smiles and conversations, brightening days and creating bonds across generations.
If you're looking to get involved, consider partnering with local veteran centers or assisted living homes. Volunteer to assemble and deliver these gift baskets, or even write personal notes thanking veterans for their service. The impact is profound—not just for the veterans but for everyone involved in the act of giving.
Remember, honoring veterans is not confined to Veterans Day alone; it’s an ongoing commitment to ensuring they feel valued every day. Showing respect through thoughtful gifts and social engagement keeps their stories alive and strengthens community ties.
