... Read moreYou know those simple moments that just make your day? For me, it’s stepping into my garden after a long day, especially as the sun starts to dip. There’s something truly magical about watching my zinnias in the evening light. It’s not just gardening; it's become my personal 'nighttime therapy.' This is where I find those 'Life's little joys' that truly recharge me.
I started planting zinnias a few seasons ago, primarily because I loved their vibrant colors. But what I discovered was so much more. As dusk settles, the colors seem to deepen, and the whole garden takes on a serene glow. I love to grab a cup of tea and just sit, observing. The gentle rustle of leaves, the last few bees buzzing, and the way the zinnia blooms stand tall, almost posing – it’s incredibly calming. It helps me unwind and forget the day's stresses. To enhance this, I’ve set up a cozy chair right next to my zinnia patch, and sometimes I even put out a small, solar-powered lantern, which adds to the peaceful ambiance. It’s these quiet moments, enjoying nature’s simple beauty, that truly make a difference in my well-being.
Beyond the therapeutic aspect, zinnias are absolute superstars when it comes to attracting butterflies. If you’re looking for 'plants that attract butterflies,' look no further! My garden is now a bustling hub of activity during the day. I’ve seen everything from Monarchs to Painted Ladies flitting between the blooms. They seem particularly drawn to the flat, accessible landing pads of the zinnia flowers, making it easy for them to sip nectar. I've found that single-petal varieties tend to be even better for butterflies, as their nectar is more readily available.
To create an even more inviting space for these winged beauties, I also intersperse my zinnias with other butterfly favorites like coneflowers and milkweed (for the Monarchs!). Providing a shallow dish of water with some small stones for them to land on also helps. It’s incredible to witness the ecosystem you can create right in your backyard. Each morning, I look forward to seeing which new visitors have arrived, and each evening, I cherish the tranquility the garden offers. These flowers really are a gift – offering both vibrant beauty and a peaceful sanctuary. If you haven’t tried planting zinnias, I highly recommend it. They’re relatively easy to grow from seed, forgiving, and will bring so much color and life (and peace!) to your outdoor space. It’s truly one of 'Life's little joys' you can cultivate yourself.
