🌱Pepper update and life hack🍋

One of my favorite hacks that I have found so far (on this app mind you) is to plant a cinderblock garden.

The cinderblocks make for nice little planters and the middle you can fill with dirt so you can plant even more.

This is more scattered seeds (pepper seeds) in the middle, as I had messed up the initial planting of the pepper seeds in the cinder blocks.

There are still some peppers growing in the cinderblocks, although not as well as I had hoped. The zinnias I planted absolutely LOVE the cinderblock planters though!

What is your go-to hack for gardening? Are there any hacks I should know about as a young gardener?

... Read moreCinderblock gardening is an innovative and space-efficient method to create functional planters for various plants, especially in limited spaces. By utilizing the hollow centers of cinderblocks, gardeners can fill them with soil and plant seeds, effectively multiplying the planting area. This approach not only recycles materials but also provides good drainage and insulation for plant roots. Pepper plants, like many vegetables, require well-drained soil and adequate sunlight for optimal growth. When planting pepper seeds in cinderblocks, it's important to use quality soil and ensure consistent watering without over-saturating. Though scattered seeds can be a recovery method for initial planting errors, precise seed placement generally yields healthier plants. Moreover, peppers might need additional nutrients, so incorporating organic compost or balanced fertilizers can enhance growth. Zinnias are excellent companion plants in the garden and thrive in cinderblock planters as described. They require full sun and moderate watering, attracting pollinators that benefit other crops like peppers. Their adaptability and vibrant flowers add both beauty and ecological balance to the garden. For beginners and young gardeners, some essential hacks include using mulch to retain soil moisture, vertical gardening techniques to maximize space, and proper pest management without harsh chemicals. Starting with hardy plants such as zinnias can build confidence and success that encourages experimentation. Furthermore, experimenting with container planting using reclaimed materials like cinderblocks promotes sustainable gardening practices. Regularly monitoring plant health, adjusting watering schedules according to weather, and recording growth progress help refine gardening skills and yields. Overall, cinderblock gardens offer a creative and practical life hack that blends sustainability, efficiency, and aesthetic appeal — perfect for those looking to enhance their gardening experience on small or urban plots.

My biggest challenge is good soil. The majority of the dirt here is clay

I really like the way this looks. Thanks for sharing! I might give this a try. My husband and I have a little garden. We keep a small fence around it because we have hungry deer and bunnies visit our yard all the time. So now, they’re all eating my flowers! 😂
