I like to cut it close
As a fellow Helldiver, there's nothing quite like the adrenaline rush of a mission where you're truly 'cutting it close,' especially against those relentless Automatons. You know the feeling – your heart is pounding, ammo is low, and every move could be your last. But when that 'Heavy Automaton Outpost Destroyed' message flashes, and 'AREA SECURED' finally rings out, it’s pure, unadulterated triumph for managed democracy. My recent run was exactly that, and I learned a few things about facing down a fortified Automaton presence that might help you cut open their defenses and achieve victory when the odds are stacked against you. First off, let's talk loadouts. When you're heading into an Automaton-heavy mission, especially one involving an outpost, you need to be prepared to cut open their armor. Forget the small arms; you need anti-tank. The Autocannon or Recoilless Rifle are my go-to choices. They can punch through the armor of Devastators and Hulks, and more importantly, they are vital for destroying fabricators from a distance. Sometimes, simply having the right tool to cut open a weak point makes all the difference. For stratagems, I always recommend an Orbital Laser or an Eagle Airstrike. These can be lifesavers for clearing out heavy concentrations of enemies or taking down structures when you're overwhelmed. A well-placed Eagle can literally cut open a path through a swarm of bots. Tactics are crucial when you're outnumbered. Don't just rush in, especially if you're alone or with a less coordinated squad. Try to approach the outpost from flanks, using cover to your advantage. Prioritize targets: rocket devastators are a huge threat, followed by regular devastators, then smaller units. If you can cut open an opportunity to take out their generators or fabricators early, do it. This reduces reinforcements and makes the later stages of the engagement much more manageable. Communication is key, even if it's just pinging targets. There have been countless times where my squadmates and I have managed to cut open a victory simply by calling out threats and focusing fire. Dealing with the pressure is a whole other beast. It's easy to panic when you're getting swarmed, but taking a deep breath and reassessing your situation can save a mission. If you're low on health or ammo, don't be afraid to retreat briefly to regroup, resupply, and find a better position. Sometimes, a tactical fallback to cut open some breathing room is the smartest play. Remember, every Helldiver can respawn, so don't be afraid to make a heroic charge if it means reviving a teammate or completing an objective. That moment when you're the last one standing, and you manage to throw that final stratagem that says 'Heavy Automaton Outpost Destroyed' – that's what we play for. It’s about more than just shooting; it's about strategy, grit, and the determination to bring democracy to every corner of the galaxy. It’s about those moments where you truly cut open a path to victory against all odds. Next time you're facing down a fortified Automaton outpost, remember these tips, and go secure that area for Super Earth!
