... Read moreOkay, so let's be real – getting your first period can be a mix of exciting, confusing, and maybe a little scary! School definitely taught us the basics, but there’s so much more to know, right? I'm here to spill the tea on what to expect when you get your first period and all the little things that would've made my journey so much smoother. First off, it's totally normal for your period to be a bit unpredictable at the beginning. It might not be exactly 28 days apart, and the flow could vary. Some days might be super light, just a brownish spotting, while others could be heavier and bright red. Don't panic if it's not the same every time – your body is just figuring things out! Keep track in a little notebook or an app; it helps you understand your own cycle. Now, let's talk about products! The world of period care has so many options. Pads are usually the go-to for beginners, and they come in different sizes and absorbencies. Make sure to change them every 3-4 hours, even if your flow is light, to stay fresh and prevent any odors. Tampons are another option, but they can feel a bit intimidating at first. If you're curious, start with the smallest size and definitely read the instructions carefully. Remember to change tampons every 4-8 hours to avoid the risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS), which is rare but serious. And hey, there are also menstrual cups and period underwear – amazing options once you're comfortable and want something more sustainable! Cramps! Ugh, the infamous period cramps. They can range from a dull ache to a sharp pain. My go-to hacks? A warm compress or a hot water bottle on my lower belly works wonders. Sometimes, a gentle walk or some light stretching can also help. Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen can be a lifesaver if the pain is disrupting your day. And honestly, staying hydrated is surprisingly important – sometimes dehydration can make cramps feel even worse. Finally, hygiene is key. Always wash your hands before and after changing any period product. During your period, it’s a good idea to shower daily and wash your external genital area with just warm water – no harsh soaps or douches needed, as they can upset your natural balance. Wearing breathable cotton underwear can also make a big difference in comfort and preventing irritation. Remember, your period is a natural part of being a girl, and there's no shame in it. If you ever have really heavy bleeding, excruciating pain that doesn't get better with pain relievers, or very irregular periods after a couple of years, it's always a good idea to chat with a trusted adult or a doctor. You've got this!

student life can be rough and it’s always important to take care of yourself! so here are some habits I think that’s crucial to maintain: 1. pack your backpack - decide what you’d only need to bring and regularly clear out the contents 2. pick out outfits ahead - saves so much time and energy!
