* In recent years, the word "ritual" has become more and more common in temples, libraries, offices, and online media areas. These ceremonies are often communicated in language that believes that a life of congestion, pain, or repetition can be "reset" within a short time if someone knows, a teacher, or a certain ritual comes to the rescue.
* This phenomenon does not happen by chance, reflecting the state of mind of Thai society in an age where people face all-round pressures, volatile economies, debt burdens, job insecurity, vulnerability of relationships, and a sense of less control over their lives. In such a context, rituals that promise to "cut off" bad things become understandably dependent.
* However, the important question is not only whether these ceremonies are good or bad, but whether we understand the Buddhist words "karma" and "karmic cutting," and more importantly, whether this misunderstanding is relying on the ceremony instead of changing ourselves.
So this article would like to invite readers to look at the "ritual cut-off" in a conscious way, distinguish religion from psychology, and understand clearly what Buddhism really teaches and what Thai society is interpreting from the original doctrine.

First, to ask clearly, what is "karma"?
* In Buddhism, the word "karma" does not refer to a mysterious fate, an unseen force, or a curse that has been carried on in the past, if it refers to the actions of human beings, both physical, verbal, and mental, which cause systematic and continuous consequences. The main theme is "How do you get that result?" also known as "Jatha Kampang."
* This means that karma is not something that anyone can erase, solve, or manage for us, because it is the cumulative effect of the decisions and actions we make by ourselves at the moment. Karma is not a mystery, but an honest rule of mind and behavior.
* Understanding karma in this way makes us look at life more responsibly, because no one else has to take our results for us, and no one can change our results if we do not change the cause.

So, is "karmic cutting ceremony" real in Buddhism?
* If answered honestly without prostrating, the answer is "no."
* In the Tripitaka and the core teachings of Buddhism, there is no idea that karma can be "cut," "erased," or "transferred" by any ritual, whether it is exorcising, performing a particular ceremony, or substituting others.
* If karma can be erased by a single ceremony, the Buddhist practice, treatment of precepts, or mindfulness practice will be completely meaningless because it does not require any mental training or behavior change that clearly contradicts the core of Buddhism's teachings.
* Buddhism does not teach to rely on ceremonies to escape karma, but teaches to face, understand, and change oneself through continuous practice.

So why do many people "feel better" after the ceremony?
* This point must be clearly separated between psychological and moral consequences.
* What happens after the ceremony in many cases is a sense of relief, an easing of fear, or a feeling of starting a new life. These feelings are real and should not be underestimated, but are not caused by karma being erased, if it is caused by the mind being "reset."
* Psychologically, a ritual acts like a confession, a declaration of intent, or giving life a new meaning at a juncture. It helps people to brave stop their original behavior, dare to decide to change course, and feel they still have a chance to start over.
* These positive effects are real, but to be correct, this is not because karma is erased, if it is because the heart changes, and when the heart changes, behavior has the opportunity to change.

How does Buddhism view "cutting karma"?
* Although Buddhism does not use the word "karma cut," it has a deeper and more straightforward concept:
* Creating a new cause is stronger than the old one.
* Old karma yields according to its part, but good new karma, if done continuously, can reduce the impact of the original karma. The Buddha used to compare it with the parable of "salt in a glass of water."
* Salt is like bad karma. Clean water is like good karma. We cannot remove salt from the glass, but can add more clean water, so that salinity is diluted and no longer affects life.
* This is the essence of karma management in Buddhism, not the erasure of the past, but the creation of a present strong enough to support the fruits of the past.

What is the real "karma cycle cutting"?
The most practical and Buddhist thing is to cut the cycle of karma, not to erase karma.
1.Be conscious, see the same behavior patterns that mired life, and stop repeating it.
2. Do not add new reasons, stop aggravating old things by repeated mistakes, even in small things used to.
3. Regularly create new causes through precepts, compassion, concentration and wisdom to gradually change the direction of life.
This process may not be whiz, not quick, and not create ritual-like marvels, but a life-changing from the roots, and the most enduring path.

So is the ritual cutting a trick or a business?
It must be fairly answered that there are both.
* Some use the ceremony as a mental solution to help those caught up in guilt or despair rise to a powerful new beginning.
* But in many other cases, the ceremony is turned into a fear business that sells hope without mentioning responsibility for real-life actions or behavior changes.
* The key point is that if a ceremony implies that "Do not change anything in life?" that is, a clear distortion of Buddhist teachings and may create long-term harm to both individuals and society.
Ritual cutting in the sense of removing karma does not exist in Buddhism, but cutting the cycle of karma by mindfulness, changing behavior, and creating new causes, does exist and is done on its own every day.
Karma is not something to fear, but something to understand and take responsibility for, and no one can help us more than to change the present cause, because that is the only point at which we have full power over our lives.
จากประสบการณ์ส่วนตัว การเข้าใจ "กรรม" ตามหลักพุทธศาสนา ทำให้ผมรู้สึกว่าชีวิตมีความหมายและความรับผิดชอบชัดเจนมากขึ้น เพราะเราไม่สามารถหนีพ้นผลกรรมที่เกิดจากการกระทำของตัวเอง แต่สิ่งที่น่าสนใจคือในสังคมปัจจุบันมีการจัด "พิธีตัดกรรม" กันอย่างแพร่หลาย ซึ่งทำให้หลายคนรู้สึกดีขึ้นในระยะสั้น เป็นเหมือนการรีเซ็ตจิตใจ แต่ในความเป็นจริงพิธีเหล่านี้ไม่สามารถลบหรือแก้ไขกรรมได้จริง สิ่งที่พิธีกรรมเหล่านี้ช่วยคือผลทางจิตวิทยา ช่วยให้รู้สึกคลายกังวลและมีพลังใจเปลี่ยนแปลงตนเอง เช่น การได้สารภาพหรือประกาศเจตนารมณ์ใหม่ในชีวิต เป็นกุศโลบายที่ดีในระยะหนึ่งในการปลุกใจให้เริ่มต้นใหม่ ในหลักพุทธศาสนา สิ่งที่เราทำได้และควรทำคือ "ตัดวงจรกรรม" โดยใช้สติรู้ทันพฤติกรรมเดิมๆ ที่ทำให้ชีวิตติดอยู่กับปัญหา และเลิกสร้างเหตุซ้ำเดิม พร้อมทั้งสร้างเหตุใหม่ที่ดีด้วยการรักษาศีล การทำทาน และพัฒนาจิตใจด้วยสมาธิและปัญญา ซึ่งเป็นกระบวนการที่ยาวนานและต้องใช้ความเพียรอย่างต่อเนื่อง เปรียบเหมือนน้ำในแก้วใบหนึ่งที่มีเกลือละลายอยู่ เราไม่สามารถเอาเกลือออก แต่เราสามารถเติมน้ำสะอาดลงไปเพื่อเจือจางความเค็มจนแทบไม่รู้สึก ผลกรรมไม่ดีจะค่อยๆ ลดผลกระทบต่อชีวิตเมื่อเราสร้างกรรมดีอย่างสม่ำเสมอ ดังนั้น อย่าหลงเชื่อว่ามีวิธีลัดหรือตัดกรรมได้ด้วยพิธีเดียว แต่ควรเข้าใจว่าไม่มีใครช่วยเรามากเท่าการเปลี่ยนแปลงตัวเราเองในปัจจุบัน นี่คือการรับผิดชอบที่แท้จริงและเป็นหนทางสู่ชีวิตที่ดียิ่งขึ้นอย่างยั่งยืน
