The world faces events that cause many people to start questioning humanity's future again - whether it be wars, geopolitical conflicts, global warming, economic crises, or even the arrival of artificial intelligence (AI) that is rapidly changing working patterns and what it means to be human.

Amid a world that seems uncharacteristically advanced, many people instead feel insecure, anxious, and unsure of what direction the future will take us.

The question then arises in the minds of a younger generation: "Will mankind really move toward a better path, or are we heading for a great mental decline?"

In this context, the story of Sririmaitreya, which according to the Buddha refers to the future Buddha, is not just a religious narrative, but a philosophical issue that calls into question the future of the entire human race.

This article therefore tries to systematically explain the subject of Sririyametraya, separating the scriptural parts from the beliefs, and connecting them to the great questions of the modern world, so that the reader can rationally understand, not be ignorant, and see that the ancient teachings are still strangely contemporary.

1) How to know that there will be a 5th Buddha?

In Theravada Buddhism, "Phatra Gap," or Gap, is mentioned because five Buddhas have happened:

1. Phra Kusandha

2. Phra Konak Khom

3. Phra Gus

4. Somancodom (present Buddha)

5. Sririyamitreya (future Buddha)

Passages about the future Buddha appear in the Tripitaka, such as the Chakkvattiyutra, where the Buddha explains that human society has alternately deteriorated and prosperous cycles.

When morality deteriorates, humans will face severe suffering before they begin to restore morality, and when human society resumes morality, a new Buddha will emerge.

Thus, the idea of Sririyamitreya is not a floating prophecy, but an explanation of the cycle of humanity through a Buddhist framework of thought, which views man as a learned being through repeated mistakes and suffering.

In the contemporary view, this reflects the same idea as human history, where societies thrive and collapse and are reborn in different ways.

2) What is the sign of the era of Sririmaitreya?

The Buddhist scriptures describe the world's transition in a cyclical manner.

* The religion of the present Buddha has gradually deteriorated.

* Human morality is declining.

* Increased violence

* Human life is significantly shorter.

It's only about 10 years old, and society is full of fear and abuse.

After that, the people who survived began to learn from suffering and gradually restore morality, and society became calm, and human life grew longer.

When humans reach a life expectancy of about 80,000 years and the society is highly moral, Sririyamitreya will come to enlighten.

In a symbolic sense, this is not just about life expectancy, it reflects a society in which humans can live together peacefully without encroaching on each other.

Translated into modern languages, this is a world where humans can control greed, fear, and hatred so well that they don't need to hurt each other to survive.

3) At what stage of the cycle is mankind now?

Based on the scriptures, we are still early after Buddha Pranirvana and very far from the era of Sririyametraya.

But on the other hand, through philosophical eyes, the modern world is at a very interesting juncture.

Humans developed technology most quickly in history, but at the same time,

* Stress and depression are increasing worldwide.

* Conflicts and wars also occur.

* The environment is heavily destroyed.

* A lot of people feel isolated even in the most connected world.

So the important question: "Are humans developing or wandering?" We may be living in an age where humans have the most tools but the least understanding of themselves.

4) Where did the Buddha go to Pranirvana?

In the Theravada Buddhist core, nirvana is not a place, but a state that is entirely immune from birth.

So when the Buddha, the Prince of Nirvana, it is not a move, but the end of the whole process of birth and suffering.

Asking "where is it?" is like asking, "Where is the fire that goes out?" In Buddhism, the fire does not go anywhere, but has no reason to continue burning.

Philosophically, Nirvana is therefore not the destination of the place, but the end of the need to continue the journey.

5) Where is Sririmaitreya today?

The scriptures say that he was also a bodhisattva in the Dusit heaven, just as before the prince came down to be a Buddha.

The philosophical meaning is that the Buddha's birth was not a coincidence, but when the world was really ready to receive that teaching.

In other words, it is not the Buddha who must hurry, but the man who must learn.

6) Buddha and the future of mankind

Philosophically, the Buddha of each age came not to solve technological or economic problems, but to solve human mental problems.

Earth may be more technologically advanced, have AI to do virtually anything, humans may travel to other planets.

But the key question remains the same.

* Are humans still suffering?

* Still angry, hated, greedy, and afraid?

If the answer is "yes," that means that humans still need wisdom and awakening, not unlike two thousand and five hundred years ago.

Sririyamitreya, in the deepest sense, may not be just a person in the future, but a symbol of the day when all the world is ready to learn and escape from common passion.

7) AI-Age Global Crisis, Warfare, and the Environment: Which Way Is Humans Going?

* AI makes humans work faster, but it also creates fear of losing their jobs.

* Wars and conflicts also occur, even as the world becomes more connected.

* The environment is degraded because humans consume too much.

These reflect the original human problems of greed, fear and insatiability.

In this sense, the future Buddha is therefore not a miracle-comer, but a symbol of learned humans to mercifully coexist.

8) When material progress is not equal to mental progress.

Human history shows that all ages believe that they are at their most advanced stage, but the fundamental human problems have never changed.

* Humans in the Stone Age were afraid of starvation.

* Industrial man is afraid of poverty.

* Digital age humans fear being left behind

But the fear of each generation has the same structure: instability in the human mind, so the real progress may not be to create smarter technologies, but to create more intelligent humans.

9) The next stage of human evolution may not be the body, but the mind.

Humans once evolved to survive beasts and nature, later developing technology to control the outside world.

But the modern challenge is not an external threat if it is an inner chaos.

Stress, fear, isolation and inadequacy became the mental epidemics of the modern world.

If biological evolution allows humans to stand on two legs, the next stage of evolution may be for humans to learn to live with their own minds in peace.

The Buddha may therefore be viewed as a conscious evolutionary leader, rather than a historical figure.

10) Humanity's Last Question

The matter of Sririmaitreya should therefore not be seen only as a future to wait for, but as a mirror to reflect that.

Whether humanity can walk to a better age depends on changes within the human mind itself.

The important question is not, "When will the next Buddha come?" but, "Are humans getting better today?" Because the future of mankind may not be waiting for a new Buddha.

But it is in modern humans that they choose to develop only technology, or to develop their own minds along the way, and perhaps the future Buddha will start with a small change in the human mind in modern times.
