I know it's been a while since I've given you an update (🫣) however, there's been a LOT happening in the background (😆) at Aesthetic Alkhemy (@aestheticalkhemy )
Once I audited all of the textiles, I moved into mood boarding the project. When I create digital and physical project moodboards, it helps my teams visualize the concept (especially when we're creating something that does not yet exist), solidify the concept (because things tend to shift as you pull ideas together), and understand what we will ultimately be doing.
Since this is a HUGE project, I have spent the last two months on planning the set design. As I've worked through planning the set design, I've started ordering backdrops, purchasing furniture peices, and getting all the linens together. Some of the textiles that I showed across social media this past Spring are being used to create set peices as well. And now that we've landed on a solid concept/theme, we'll be working with a couple of International Artisians to provide Culturally/Ethnically authentic pieces also.
I am still searching for the right studio location, so for the time being, I've started building, setting up, and spreading out in my home studio. YES-space is limited and it's tight in here right now, but it's well worth the sacrifice. What you see here is nowhere near what you'll see in the coming months, and everything is coming together beautifully 😍
I'm looking forward to touring studios this week and next week, as well as getting the shipments of props in. I can't wait to show you all that process😊
... Read moreDiving deeper into the creative process behind a large-scale project is always inspiring. Creating mood boards, as mentioned, really helps unify the vision for any complex art or design initiative. I’ve personally found that combining both physical and digital mood boards aids in visualizing abstract ideas tangibly, which is especially crucial when working with a team remotely or across disciplines.
When planning a set design, attention to detail is key. Selecting textiles and furniture pieces that not only fit the theme but also feel authentic adds a layer of depth that can transform the entire project’s atmosphere. Incorporating backdrops and linens that resonate with the mood board can elevate the visual storytelling power significantly.
Collaborating with international artisans to source culturally and ethnically authentic pieces is a fantastic way to honor diverse traditions. It enriches the project materially and conceptually. In my experience, such partnerships not only produce unique art but also foster cross-cultural understanding and respect.
Setting up a home studio when searching for a permanent space is a challenge many creatives face. Balancing limited space with creative ambition means prioritizing essentials and being resourceful. From personal experience, transforming a tight area into a functional creative hub requires strategic organization, and it’s incredibly rewarding to watch the space evolve alongside the project.
Touring studios and managing prop shipments sounds exciting. Seeing different spaces can spark new ideas for layout and workflow, and receiving new materials often inspires fresh creative directions. Sharing these moments with an engaged audience also builds anticipation and community around the project, which I find enhances motivation and creativity.
Overall, this behind-the-scenes journey at Aesthetic Alkhemy offers valuable insights for anyone involved in creative production, highlighting the importance of preparation, collaboration, and adaptability.
