What Lighting Actually Makes Your Home Feel Bigger

Most people think brighter the lights = bigger the home feels

But actually:

- The wrong colour temperature can make your home feel harsh and cramped

- While the right lighting tone creates depth, softness, and spaciousness.

WARM LIGHTING 🌞

Gives:

- Softer atmosphere

- More depth

- Cosy feel

- Smoother shadows

This makes the spaces feel:

- More luxurious

- Calmer

- Visually “larger” because the edges feel softer

Works best for:

- Living room

- Bedroom

- Dining area

COOL LIGHTING ❄️

Gives:

- Brighter

- Sharper

- Cleaner look

But:

- Can make homes feel flat

- Exposes clutter more

- Creates harsh shadows

- Feels “clinical” if overused

Works better for:

- Kitchen

- Study areas

- Service yard

- Task lighting

OVERALL:

Cool lighting makes you SEE the room clearly. 👀

Warm lighting makes you FEEL the room differently. 🧣

5/19 Edited to

... Read moreFrom my own experience in redesigning my living spaces, I’ve found that lighting truly changes how big or small a room feels. Initially, I thought cranking up bright white lights would open up my rooms, but instead they felt cold and uninviting. Switching to warm lighting tones brought a noticeable softness and depth that visually expanded my living room and bedroom. Warm lighting creates gentle shadows and a cozy ambiance that trick your eyes into perceiving space differently. In contrast, cool lighting—with its bright and sharp qualities—works best in functional areas like kitchens or study rooms where clarity and focus are vital. It can highlight details but risks exposing clutter and making spaces feel smaller or clinical if overused. I also experimented with layering lighting—combining warm ambient lights with cooler task lights—to achieve both spaciousness and practicality. For example, warm lamps in the lounge area enhanced relaxation and a sense of luxury, while cool under-cabinet lights in the kitchen provided crisp visibility without overwhelming the space. Based on these observations, I recommend choosing warm lighting to enhance comfort and a feeling of spaciousness in living and dining areas, while reserving cool lighting for work-focused or utilitarian zones. This strategic use of lighting color temperature not only improves aesthetics but also influences how we emotionally experience home size and atmosphere. In summary, lighting isn’t just about brightness; it’s a tool to shape how your home feels and functions. By carefully selecting and balancing warm and cool light sources, you can make rooms feel bigger and more inviting, creating a home environment that truly suits your lifestyle and mood.

Save this: The trading setup you actually need.
A few of you have asked me what my trading setup looks like: what screens I use, how many monitors I have, and what equipment is needed. Honestly, it’s nothing fancy at all. I do all my trading directly from my iPhone. That’s it. No multiple screens, no elaborate desk setup, just my phone.
