Lonely traveler Missing home,

... Read moreTraveling alone often brings a mixed bag of emotions—excitement paired with moments of solitude that can feel deeply lonely. Researchers from Flinders University highlight that dining alone may link to poorer health, which I have personally noticed during my travels. To counter this, I try to connect with local culture either by tasting iconic dishes or finding communal spaces. For example, savoring dishes like Kimchi from Chunyu Palace or staying in welcoming hostels such as Oyo Hostel Myeongdong 6 or Lay Day Hostel in Canggu not only introduces new flavors but also offers an environment to meet other travelers. These small connections can ease the pangs of homesickness and loneliness. Music has been my constant companion. Songs like "游子" by Gerry evoke feelings of nostalgia and comfort, reminding me that missing home is natural but can be balanced with self-love and embracing the present journey. Sharing these experiences helps me cope, grow, and transform loneliness into opportunity on the road.
