This is one of my favorite exercises ever!! Keep your hips tucked under and that spin neutral
You want to lift allll from the booty to get the most out of this exercise🍑
Okay, let's talk about building that *dream booty*! If you're like me and constantly searching for the 'best booty ever' exercises, then you absolutely need to add Romanian Deadlifts (RDLs) to your routine. Seriously, RDLs have my heart for a reason – they are truly a game-changer for glute development and hamstring strength. What makes RDLs so effective? Unlike conventional deadlifts, RDLs focus heavily on the eccentric (lowering) phase and maintaining tension on your hamstrings and glutes throughout the movement. This constant tension is key for muscle growth. When executed correctly, you’ll feel an incredible stretch in your hamstrings and a powerful contraction in your glutes at the top. It's not about how much weight you lift, but how well you feel the movement in the target muscles. Let's break down the perfect form to ensure you get the most out of every rep: Starting Position: Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart, holding a barbell or dumbbells with an overhand grip, hands slightly wider than your shoulders. Keep a slight bend in your knees – this bend should remain constant throughout the movement. The Hinge: This is crucial! Instead of squatting down, imagine pushing your hips back as if you're trying to touch a wall behind you. Your torso will naturally hinge forward. Keep your core engaged to maintain a neutral spine – no rounding your back! Your chest should stay up, and your gaze should be slightly forward. Descent: Allow the weight to travel down your legs, keeping it as close to your body as possible. Continue to push your hips back until you feel a deep stretch in your hamstrings. This is where the magic happens for your glutes! Remember the original tip: keep your hips tucked under to ensure you're driving the movement from your glutes and not over-arching your lower back. For most people, the bar will reach around mid-shin or just below the knees, but listen to your body and your hamstring flexibility. Ascent: This is where you lift allll from the booty! Squeeze your glutes powerfully to drive your hips forward and return to the starting position. Don't hyperextend your back at the top; just stand tall, feeling that strong glute contraction. Common Mistakes to Avoid: Squatting instead of hinging: If your knees bend too much, you're turning it into more of a squat. Focus on pushing your hips back. Rounding your back: This puts immense pressure on your spine. Keep that core tight and spine neutral. Use a lighter weight if you can't maintain form. Not feeling it in your glutes/hamstrings: You might be going too low, using too much lower back, or not initiating with the hip hinge. Focus on the stretch and squeeze. Going too heavy too soon: Master the form with lighter weights first. Form over ego, always! Incorporating RDLs into your routine will make a huge difference. I usually include them on my leg day or a dedicated glute-focused day, aiming for 3-4 sets of 8-12 repetitions. As you get stronger, you can progress by increasing the weight, slowing down the tempo for more time under tension, or even trying single-leg RDLs for an extra challenge. Trust me, with consistent effort and correct form, RDLs are your ticket to sculpting that strong, round, and firm 'best booty ever' you've been working towards. It's all about feeling that connection with your muscles and making every rep count!
