The best hikes to get to the Hollywood Sign
If you're in LA, you're visiting the Hollywood Sign. There are a couple of hikes and viewpoints that will get you unique views, but these have been my favorite (and more popular) ones:
- Mount Hollywood Trail: this is the more popular trail, but allocate at least 3 hours because it is a 5.3 round trip hike. It will get you right to the sign where you can take your classic LA Hollywood Sign photos. Just remember to wear closed toe shoes because it is dusty!
- Canyon Drive: this is a more challenging hike as it will also take you 3 hours, but more strenuous. Park at the Griffith Park parking lot, and make sure to bring lots of water and sunscreen.
These hikes are not short so make sure that you're allocating enough time during your trip to LA!

Hiking to the Hollywood Sign offers stunning views and a taste of Los Angeles' natural beauty. The Mount Hollywood Trail is a well-maintained path that provides a smooth hiking experience, perfect for those looking to capture classic photos at the sign. Budget around 2.5 to 3 hours for this 5.3-mile round trip, and remember to wear appropriate footwear due to dusty terrain. If you're seeking a more demanding experience, Canyon Drive starts at the Brush Canyon Trailhead in Griffith Park. While this hike may not lead you directly to the Hollywood Sign itself, it presents a robust challenge for experienced hikers. Ensure you bring plenty of water and sunscreen, as this trail can be strenuous. Regardless of which hike you choose, make sure to plan accordingly to fully enjoy the experience. Outdoor adventures like these not only allow you to embrace nature but also provide unique perspectives of one of Hollywood's most recognized landmarks.
