FREE Salsa Class in Brooklyn?! 💃
Yup - you heard me! Every Thursday, Instructor Marlene Veras teaches salsa with percussionist Ronnie Roc on the fifth floor of the Time Out Market in Brooklyn. They teach from 6-9pm and let me say that it is an absolute blast. I don't really dance salsa, but it was so fun and everyone just has such good energy.
When you get to the fifth floor, they're all located in the back left with dimmed lights, and right by the patio so you can take a breather and get some air outside from dancing your butt off!
Located: 55 Water St, Brooklyn, NY 11201

If you've ever considered trying salsa but felt intimidated, this free class at Time Out Market in Brooklyn is absolutely perfect! I know I was a little nervous my first time, wondering if I’d stick out like a sore thumb, but from the moment I walked in, the vibe was incredibly welcoming. Instructor Marlene Veras has this infectious energy that makes learning feel effortless, even if you have two left feet like I thought I did! And having Ronnie Roc on percussion? It just elevates the whole experience, making you feel the rhythm deep in your bones. What I love most about this class, located on the fifth floor of Time Out Market at 55 Water St, is the setting. You're right by the patio, giving you the chance to step out and enjoy breathtaking views of the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan skyline – especially magical at sunset. It’s not just a dance class; it's an entire experience. Imagine dancing your heart out then taking a breather with such an iconic backdrop! For anyone thinking of going, here are a few tips I’ve picked up. First, don’t overthink your outfit. Comfort is key! I usually opt for light, breathable clothing and comfortable shoes that allow me to pivot easily – sneakers or dance flats are ideal. You don't need fancy dance shoes, especially for a beginner-friendly class like this. Second, bring a water bottle. You'll be moving a lot, and staying hydrated is important. The class runs from 6-9 PM every Thursday, and while it sounds long, the time flies by because it’s so much fun. You can grab a delicious bite or a refreshing drink from one of the many vendors at Time Out Market before or after class, making it a complete night out. This truly is one of Brooklyn's best hidden gems for a fun, free activity. It's a fantastic way to meet new people, get some exercise, and immerse yourself in a vibrant culture. Whether you're a seasoned dancer or a complete novice, Marlene and Ronnie create an atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable and encouraged. I left my first class feeling invigorated and genuinely happy, and I've been back almost every week since. Seriously, if you're looking for something unique to do in NYC, especially in Brooklyn, you have to check this out. It’s more than just a class; it’s a community, and a truly joyful way to spend a Thursday evening.
