Things in NYC you DIDN’T know about

Did you know that there is a hidden Turnstyle Underground Market on 57th & 8th — because I didn’t either! It just so happened that I stumbled across this station and I was amazed.

You can go shopping, eat, and get boba all while commuting to work, or just getting to your destination. This market seriously reminds me of Asia and I can’t believe I didn’t know about this sooner.

There’s an entrance at 57th & 8th, which is right by Central Park !

... Read moreI'm still buzzing from my recent discovery of the Turnstyle Underground Market in NYC! Tucked away beneath the bustling streets at 57th & 8th, right by Central Park, this isn't just another subway station – it's a vibrant, unexpected hub of activity. I literally stumbled upon the entrance, marked by a welcoming 'WELCOME TO UNDERGROUND MARKET' sign, and was immediately drawn into a world that felt completely separate from the city above. It's honestly one of those NYC hidden gems you hear whispers about but never quite believe exist until you see it for yourself. What truly makes the Turnstyle Underground Market such a captivating underground market nyc experience is the incredible array of offerings packed into its corridors. Forget bland subway commutes; here, you can transform your journey into a delightful shopping spree. I was amazed by the diversity of the shops. You'll find everything from unique gift boutiques selling quirky souvenirs and local artisan stalls showcasing handmade jewelry – I spotted some absolutely stunning colorful earrings that were hard to resist! – to modern accessory stands, books, and even a charming flower stall that adds a touch of fresh, vibrant color to the underground setting. It's truly a place for unique underground shopping where you can pick up something special or a last-minute gift you wouldn't find anywhere else, making your commute much more productive and enjoyable. And let's talk about the food! If you're looking for an underground market experience that tantalizes your taste buds, Turnstyle delivers big time. Beyond the refreshing boba that first caught my attention, there's an impressive selection of eateries offering everything from gourmet sandwiches and salads to diverse international street food. I felt like I was exploring a small, curated food festival, with options for every craving. The lively atmosphere, with people browsing and enjoying their meals, really evokes the feeling of a bustling Asian market, making it a fantastic spot for a quick bite, a leisurely lunch, or even just a coffee break between destinations. It seriously elevates the concept of grabbing a meal on the go. Getting there is surprisingly easy once you know about it. The main entrance is conveniently located at 57th Street and 8th Avenue, directly linking to the A, C, B, D, and 1 subway lines. So, whether you're commuting on the AC BD1 trains or just exploring Midtown, this market is incredibly accessible. Keep an eye out for the clear 'Exit 57 Street & 8 Avenue' signs to guide you. It’s the perfect place to pop into before or after a stroll through Central Park, adding a unique cultural stop to your itinerary without going out of your way. For anyone who loves discovering unique places, supporting local businesses, and experiencing the unexpected side of the city, the NYC Turnstyle Underground Market is an absolute must-visit. It’s more than just a place to pass through; it’s a destination in itself. I highly recommend taking some time to wander through the stalls, grab a coffee or a snack, and soak in the lively energy. It's a refreshing break from the usual city grind and proof that some of the best experiences and nyc hidden gems are truly hidden in plain sight, waiting for you to uncover them!
