It's so easy to forget crucial items when you're excited and nervous. I've been there, frantically searching for hairspray last minute! To help you (and anyone else prepping for a big cheer event), I've put together my ultimate, tried-and-true packing list. Think of it as your secret weapon for a stress-free comp day!
The Uniform & Accessories:
First things first, your uniform! Always double-check you have every piece – top, skirt/shorts, sports bra, and socks. And of course, your competition bow! I always pack an extra bow just in case one gets misplaced or damaged. Don't forget your cheer shoes, polished and ready to go!
Hair & Makeup Essentials:
This is where the magic happens! Hairspray is king – I usually bring two cans, one extra-hold and a backup. Along with that, pack plenty of bobby pins, hair ties, gel, and a brush/comb. For makeup, bring your full competition look, plus makeup wipes for easy removal. A small mirror can also be super handy for those quick touch-ups.
Personal Care & Comfort:
Beyond the glam, comfort is key. Pack all your essential toiletries: toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, face wash, and moisturizer. After a long day of competing, a good night's sleep is vital, so comfy pajamas are a must. I also bring a razor just in case for any last-minute touch-ups. A small fan can be a lifesaver if the venue gets warm, and don't forget headache medicine – comp days can be intense and a pain reliever can rescue your day!
Fueling Up & Hydration:
Energy levels need to be high! A reusable water bottle is non-negotiable to stay hydrated throughout the day. For snacks, think quick energy boosts: granola bars, fruit, nuts, and easy-to-eat sandwiches. And yes, your mention of bread for breakfast is genius! I swear by bringing my own sourdough and a butterknife; it’s a game-changer for a proper, comforting breakfast before showtime. It really helps settle nerves and provides sustained energy without feeling heavy.
Tech & Miscellaneous:
Don't forget your phone charger! A portable power bank is also a smart addition for those long hours away from outlets. If your hotel has a pool, a swim suit can be a great way to relax and unwind after the competition – just remember to pack it separately! Also, remember to pack some extra everyday clothes for traveling and downtime, so you're not stuck in your uniform all day.
Packing smart makes a huge difference in your comp experience. Go through your checklist a day or two before, so you're not rushing. You've worked hard, now go out there, hit zero, and have an amazing time! Good luck at State!
