My last four movies

2024/10/10 Edited to

... Read moreHey horror hounds! You saw my quick ratings for my last four Letterboxd watches, but I wanted to dive a little deeper into why I picked them and what I thought. Letterboxd has become my absolute favorite place to track my movie journey, especially when it comes to finding new scares or revisiting old favorites. First up, Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning (2004). I gave this one 4/5 stars! As a prequel to the cult classic *Ginger Snaps*, it takes us back to 19th-century Canada with the Fitzgerald sisters. I loved how it leaned into gothic horror and folklore, exploring the werewolf mythology in such a dark, atmospheric way. It's not just a creature feature; it’s got a really compelling story and sharp social commentary for its time. If you enjoyed the original, this prequel is definitely worth a watch for its unique setting and continued strong performances. Then there was Blood Theatre (1984), which sadly only got a 1/5 from me. Sometimes you just have to watch those obscure 80s horror flicks, right? This one’s a true B-movie experience about a haunted cinema. While it didn't quite land for me in terms of scares or plot, it was a fascinating look back at independent horror from that era. If you’re into cheesy dialogue and low-budget charm, you might find some fun in it, but don't expect a masterpiece! Next, I was absolutely captivated by Dario Argento's Phenomena (1985), earning a perfect 5/5 stars! This film is a wild ride. Starring a young Jennifer Connelly, it's a Giallo masterpiece with a supernatural twist. The idea of a girl who can communicate with insects to solve murders? Pure Argento genius. The visuals are stunning, the suspense is palpable, and it really sticks with you. If you haven't seen much Giallo, this is a fantastic entry point – prepare for some truly bizarre and beautiful horror. And finally, a classic rewatch: I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997), which I rated 4/5. This 90s slasher staple brings back so many nostalgic memories! It’s everything you want from a post-*Scream* slasher: a group of teens, a dark secret, and a relentless killer. The jump scares still get me, and it’s just a fun, thrilling ride. Perfect for a cozy night in, especially if you're craving that late-90s horror vibe. Beyond just logging my watches, Letterboxd is an incredible resource for horror fans. I love browsing lists created by other users – you can find everything from "Underrated Giallo" to "Best Found Footage" or "Halloween Watchlist." It's also great for discovering directors you love or exploring specific subgenres. You can easily filter by genre, year, and even streaming service to see what's available. I often check out the 'Popular' or 'Highest Rated' horror films when I'm looking for inspiration, or dive into specific lists from people whose taste I trust. It’s also a fantastic way to keep track of your own viewing history and see how your tastes evolve. What are some of your go-to horror movie resources, and what have you watched on Letterboxd recently? I'd love to hear your recommendations!
