I still have just as much fun gaming at my hot mess of a setup! I LOVE seeing so many aesthetic setups that are also functional 😍. I still want an aesthetic setup but it’s mainly a jumble of all the things I love. Plus, it works for me because my cats love knocking things off and this is the most efficient way to prevent that 😆.

If you're like me, juggling functionality with the desire for a beautiful setup (and maybe a few mischievous furballs!), here are some thoughts and next steps I'm considering to tackle the 'un-aesthetic' while keeping it real.
First off, organization aesthetic doesn't mean everything has to be pristine. It means finding a system that works for you. My tangles of cords under the desk? A constant battle! I've seen some amazing cable management solutions using velcro ties, cable sleeves, and even adhesive clips that stick right to the underside of your desk. For my custom-built PC sitting on the floor, I'm thinking about a small riser to keep it off the carpet and reduce dust (and protect it from curious cat paws!). This would also make cleaning those dust bunnies and pet hair a lot easier!
When it comes to small desk plant gaming setups, I'm a huge fan of bringing some green into my space, but with cats, it's tricky. My current setup has plushies and devotional books on shelves above, which is great for personal touches. For plants, I'm eyeing small, non-toxic options that can sit on those shelves or even hang in macrame hangers to keep them out of paw's reach. Succulents, air plants, or a small pothos in a stylish pot could add that touch of life without cluttering precious desk space needed for my monitor, keyboard, and controller. Just double-check they're safe for pets!
Decorating the walls around your gaming area can instantly elevate the vibe. Since I'm not ready to put holes in my walls, poster hanging strips and damage-free hanging strips are my go-to. Command strips are a lifesaver for putting up art prints, sound panels, or even lightweight shelves to display more of those beloved plushies or small collectibles. They make it super easy to rearrange without any damage, which is perfect for someone like me who loves to switch things up without commitment.
And let's talk about desk organizers. My current setup has headphones, controller, and other bits just... *there*. I'm really looking into practical solutions like headphone stands (that double as USB hubs!), small drawers that fit under the monitor, or even a simple pegboard system on the wall. A small desk organizer for pens, notes, and charging cables can make a huge difference in keeping the main workspace clear. I've even seen cute little trays for candles and other small items, which could help keep my surfaces tidy while adding a cozy touch.
Ultimately, a gaming setup should reflect *you*. While mine is definitely on the "un-aesthetic" side right now, focusing on these small organization wins and smart storage solutions will eventually get me closer to that dream setup – functional, personal, and maybe just a little bit more aesthetic, even with my furry helpers around!
