BOYCOTT AMAZON 3/7/25-3/14/25! ✊🏾

New York
2025/3/7 Edited to

... Read moreHey everyone! I’ve been seeing a lot of chatter lately about boycotts, especially with the upcoming Amazon Blackout from March 7-14, 2025. It got me thinking: what does it really mean to boycott, and can it actually make a difference? For me, a boycott isn't just about skipping a purchase; it's a powerful way to use our consumer voice to demand change from big corporations. When we collectively decide to withdraw our support, we send a clear message that their practices aren't acceptable. Many people wonder if a boycott is truly effective, or if it's just a temporary inconvenience. From what I’ve learned, while individual actions might seem small, the cumulative effect of thousands or even millions of people choosing to pause their spending can hit a company where it hurts most: their bottom line. This kind of pressure can force businesses to re-evaluate their policies and practices. It’s not always an overnight fix, but it definitely raises awareness and pushes for accountability. So, why are so many of us considering boycotting Amazon specifically? The reasons are pretty compelling, and I’ve seen them highlighted repeatedly. Concerns about worker exploitation are a huge factor; reports of poor working conditions and low wages for warehouse staff are heartbreaking. Then there's the impact on small businesses – the sheer scale of Amazon often makes it incredibly difficult for smaller, independent shops to compete. I really believe in supporting local and unique creators, and sometimes it feels like Amazon stifles that. Union busting attempts by the company also raise red flags for many who advocate for workers' rights. And, let's not forget the ever-present worries about privacy violations and how our data is used. When I look at all these issues together, it makes me seriously question where my money is going. Participating in an online shopping boycott against such a dominant player like Amazon might seem daunting, especially if you rely on them for convenience. I know I do! But the idea isn't necessarily to cut them out forever, but to make a statement during a specific period. For this particular week, I'm planning to get creative. Instead of hitting 'add to cart' on Amazon.com, I’ll be checking out local bookstores, independent online retailers, or even just delaying non-essential purchases. For things like groceries, I'll be heading to my local market instead of Amazon Fresh or Whole Foods, and I’m definitely pausing my Prime Video streaming. It's an opportunity to discover new places to shop and support businesses that align more with my values. Ultimately, whether you decide to join the Amazon boycott or not (like wondering "kinder boycott or not" for other companies), understanding the reasons behind such movements is really important. It encourages us to be more conscious consumers and think about the wider implications of our choices. I’m hoping this collective action will spark some real change and show these big companies that we, the consumers, have power when we stand together.

I refuse to buy anything from Domino’s Pizza just because one time they forgot my garlic sauce. Like, I ordered extra and they still didn’t include it. I was so mad that I swore I’d never order from them again. It’s been 3 years and I still haven’t. 😂 I know it’s petty, but garlic sauce is life.
