Having just returned from an incredible trip to Korea, I simply had to share my experience at Dotori Garden. If you're a fan of Studio Ghibli, especially anything related to Totoro, then this cafe in Seoul is an absolute dream come true. It's more than just a place to grab a coffee; it's an immersive escape that feels like you've stepped right into one of Hayao Miyazaki's whimsical worlds. I was so captivated by the charming, earthy decor and the little Totoro details everywhere. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was just so cozy and inviting, making it perfect for a relaxed afternoon. The cafe truly lives up to its name, creating a 'garden' feel even indoors. Now, let's talk about the food and drinks because that's a huge part of the experience! Their pastries were simply divine. I still dream about the strawberry dotori – it was a perfect blend of sweetness and freshness, and truly unique. Beyond that, they offer a fantastic array of other Korean desserts and beautifully crafted beverages. My friends and I ordered three drinks and a generous brunch platter, and we were pleasantly surprised that the total came out to only $38. For such a popular and themed cafe in Seoul, I thought that was incredibly reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. It’s definitely a spot where you can enjoy a full meal or just a delightful treat. What I really appreciated was the option of seating. While I initially eyed the outdoor seating for its picturesque charm, the Seoul summer can be quite humid! Thankfully, there were plenty of comfortable seats inside, offering a cool and tranquil environment to enjoy our treats. It’s definitely something to keep in mind depending on the weather when you visit. Dotori Garden actually boasts two distinct locations, both offering their unique charm. I visited the one in the Anguk Bukchon area, which is fantastic because it's nestled among traditional Korean hanok houses and historic sites, making it easy to combine with a cultural exploration. There's also another location in Yongsan, which I heard has a slightly different vibe but promises the same enchanting experience. Knowing there are options means you can pick the one that best fits your travel itinerary. My personal tip for visiting? Try to go during off-peak hours if you want to fully soak in the serene Studio Ghibli ambiance and get some great photos without too many crowds. Whether you're a die-hard Ghibli fan or just looking for a cute cafe with delicious food in Korea, Dotori Garden is a place I wholeheartedly recommend adding to your Seoul travel itinerary. It's truly one of my new favorite cafes!
