... Read moreWow, I truly cannot believe a whole semester has passed since I started my freshman year at The University of Alabama! It feels like just yesterday I was moving into my dorm, full of nerves and excitement for what college life would bring. Everyone talks about freshman year of college being a huge adjustment, and they weren't wrong. This 'Semester 1 Recap' is my honest take on what really happened, not just the highlight reel!
Let’s talk about the incredible social scene first. Gamedays here are absolutely legendary, and experiencing an Iron Bowl Gameday was something I'll never forget. The energy on campus is electric! We'd wake up early, get dressed up in our crimson and white, and head out to soak in the atmosphere. And yes, the 'Frats Frats Frats!!' culture is definitely a big part of it. I remember one night seeing the 'DELTA TAU DELTA' house lit up, absolutely buzzing with people. It’s a whole new world compared to high school, much more vibrant and dynamic. Halloween Weekend was another crazy blast – I even ended up with a clear raincoat, which turned out to be a lifesaver in the unpredictable weather! Seeing the 'College Gameday' bus parked on campus just added to the surreal hype. Oh, and the 'WALK OF CHAMPIONS!!' is such an iconic tradition, seeing the athletes up close adds to the deep sense of pride here at UA.
Beyond the big events, daily life was also an adventure. I was so lucky to get 'My cute Roomies!' We've had countless late-night talks, shared laughs, and supported each other through everything in our dorm. There's something really comforting about having your own little crew in a new place. And honestly, some of my favorite moments were just simple 'Wellness Walk' sessions around campus, especially catching 'The many sunsets I get walking back to my dorm'. They were perfect for clearing my head and reflecting after a long day of classes.
Speaking of classes, 'Finals week Chaos' is no joke! One minute you're having fun at a Gameday, the next you're practically living in the library. I spent so many hours hunched over my laptop, bouncing between Netflix for a sanity break and my academic content, fueled by way too many energy drinks. It's a huge learning curve to manage your time and stay on top of everything. I quickly realized that balancing social life with academics is key, and it’s a skill you learn fast during your freshman year of college.
Overall, my 'freshman year at UA' has been an incredible journey of growth. It's not all glamorous; there are moments of homesickness, stress, and figuring things out. But the community here is amazing, and I've made memories that will truly last a lifetime. If you're heading to college soon, especially The University of Alabama, be open to new experiences, embrace the chaos, and remember to take those 'Wellness Walk' breaks. It's a challenging but incredibly rewarding time!
