There’s better options than kegals.
If someone told you to "squeeze like you're stopping the flow of pee" during every rep of every exercise, I need you to unlearn that immediately.
That cue is probably causing more harm than good because you're only training part of a true pelvic floor contraction. Most of us already hold tension in our pelvic floors, so all that squeezing just exasperates the problem. Most of the time, you have to teach your pelvic floor to release and lengthen before we can get it to be responsive.
You DO have to put in the work. But the goal isn't Kegels every rep. The goal is supporting how your pelvic floor is designed to work, automatically firing before movement even happens.
When do I cue the pelvic floor?
— When I want to slow down and be intentional with isolated deep core work
- When someone is learning to connect to their deep core, postpartum, or atter an injury
— A few select populations can benefit from a gentle nudge before a heavy lift, or during pregnancy when the pelvic floor is under a lot of load
That's it.
Your non-negotiables for supporting your pelvic floor:
- Alignment
- Pressure management
- 360 breathing
That's where real change starts.
We go deep on all of this in Reclaim YOU. I'll be doing LIVE calls weekly to support the journey. Just a few days left to sign up. link in bio!
