Hello kitty is my favorite Sanrio character so ofc had to pick up lots of her! Fun fact though since there is so much HK merch I’m very particular. Has to serve a function, be exclusive to the place if found it or have Apples 🍎

Glassware from Starbucks, Kirby Cafe, Pokemon Cafe, and the Ghibli Park!

Skincare! Honestly I’ve been using everything I got non stop. I’m definitely going to stock up again on a bunch of product because it feels luxury but for half the cost. Also I Stan their sunscreen! I’m gonna get the big pack next time because it’s so different and never stings my eyes!

Snackies and Foods! Lots of udon and noodles came home with us since we visited the Kagawa prefecture where that originated from. Other sweets from Konbeini and Pokemon Center! Everything was super tasty!

... Read moreWhen planning a trip to Japan, one of the biggest excitements is discovering all the unique items you can bring home! I always look for those 'must-buy' souvenirs and trendy finds that truly capture the essence of my journey.
First off, Japanese skincare is an absolute game-changer and a top 'trend shop' item. I was genuinely impressed by the quality – it felt like luxury products but at a fraction of the cost I'd pay back home. Their sunscreens, in particular, are incredible; finding one that doesn't sting my eyes was a revelation, and I'm already planning to stock up again. If you're looking to elevate your routine, definitely explore the local beauty aisles.
For anyone who loves character goods, Japan is truly unparalleled. The Pokémon Centers are a dream come true, offering exclusive merchandise you simply won't find anywhere else. I managed to score some amazing Quaxly and Slowpoke themed items that are now cherished parts of my collection! And as a huge Hello Kitty fan, I always seek out unique Sanrio pieces, especially those with local designs or charming details like little apples. Beyond that, the Ghibli Park and Kirby Cafe also have their own delightful selection of glassware and collectibles that are truly special finds.
Don't forget the incredible culinary souvenirs! While in Japan, I made sure to grab plenty of snacks and local delicacies. Exploring a konbini (convenience store) is an experience in itself, with endless unique sweets. We even brought back several types of udon noodles from the Kagawa prefecture, where udon originated, which make for delicious and authentic gifts.
Beyond the more common souvenirs, keep an eye out for unique home goods and stationery. I found some beautiful themed glassware from Starbucks Japan, the Kirby Cafe, Pokemon Cafe, and Ghibli Park that beautifully capture my memories. Delicate items like ceramic chopstick rests can add a touch of Japanese elegance to your dining table, and I even picked up some adorable aquarium-themed rulers and washi tape. These small, thoughtful items are perfect for adding a touch of Japan to your daily life.
A final 'travel hack' for your shopping spree: always pack a foldable extra bag or even an empty carry-on suitcase inside your main luggage. You'll be amazed how quickly your haul grows, and having that extra space is a lifesaver. My boyfriend ended up needing a new suitcase mid-trip, which just goes to show how many irresistible treasures Japan has to offer. Happy shopping and enjoy bringing a piece of Japan home with you!
