Line art tips ! For intermediate artists

Here’s some of my favorite tips and tricks to level up your lineart!

Additional Tips Line art:

✅ confidence, consistent style, learn though mistakes.

❌ scratchy unsure marks, unintentionally mixed line art styles, giving up on art.

Let me know what else you want to learn to draw? Because I want to be your art friend ✨#illustration #drawingtips #arttutorial #lineart #art

... Read moreHey fellow artists! If you've ever found yourself asking, "Why does my line art look so flat?" or "How do I make my drawings pop?", trust me, I've been there. It’s easy to feel like you "suck at drawing" when your lines don't quite capture the vibrancy you imagine. But I’ve learned some incredible line art tips that completely changed my game, especially for us intermediate artists looking to push our skills further. One of the biggest game-changers for me was understanding varying lineweights. This isn't just about drawing thicker or thinner lines; it's about using line thickness strategically to add depth, focus, and texture to your art. I used to just do "flat lineart" with uniform lines, and my drawings looked pretty basic. But then I discovered how much difference "lineart with weight variety" makes! It’s like magic! Let's break down the "TYPES OF LINEWEIGHTS" I swear by: Outline: Use a slightly thicker line for the main contour of your subject. This immediately separates it from the background and gives it a solid presence. Think about outlining a character – it makes them stand out. Lighting: This one blew my mind! You can actually use line weight to suggest light and shadow. Imagine a light source hitting your subject; the lines on the side facing away from the light can be a bit thicker to indicate a shadow, while lines on the illuminated side can be thinner. This creates incredible depth without even adding shading. My "lighting tips drawing" approach completely transformed when I started doing this. Perspective: Line weight is a fantastic tool for enhancing perspective. Objects or parts of an object that are closer to the viewer should have slightly thicker, bolder lines. Conversely, things further away can have thinner, lighter lines. This trick really helps create that sense of depth and distance, like in a frog perspective drawing where an exaggerated hand looks super close! Beyond just outlines, thinking about the texture and material you're drawing can also guide your line weight. For example, the enhanced line style is "GOOD FOR FABRIC" because the varied thickness mimics creases and folds beautifully, making it look much more dynamic than basic lines. When it comes to drop shadows, don't just think about shading! You can use a slightly heavier line directly under an object or along an edge that casts a shadow to enhance that feeling of separation and depth. This simple trick adds so much form. My journey to better line art also taught me the importance of confidence in my strokes. Those "scratchy unsure marks" we all make? They often come from hesitating. One exercise that really helped me with consistent lines was practicing one line drawing tutorial style sketches. It forces you to commit to your path. And remember, it's okay to "learn through mistakes." Every sketsa (sketch) you make, even if it's not perfect, is a step towards mastery. So, if you're like me and constantly looking for "things to draw intermediate" to challenge yourself, focus on these line art principles. Experiment with different pressures, try various pens, and observe how artists on art tips pinterest use line weight. It's truly amazing how much character and life a well-executed line can bring to your illustrations. Keep practicing, keep experimenting, and embrace the process of making your art truly your own!
