I’ve tried a lot of skincare thanks to TikTok, especially from some of my favorite influencers, so here are my honest thoughts.
One thing I’ve learned: you can get really far with affordable brands like Prequel, Naturium, and Byoma. These brands prove that skincare doesn’t have to be expensive to be high quality—they offer both quality and good quantity.
Everyone’s skin is different. Some people can handle ten-step routines, while others (like me) need to keep things simple. Unfortunately, my skin doesn’t love too many products at once—even though I wish it did because I love skincare.
Because of that, I stick to skin cycling and rotate products throughout the week. My routines stay pretty minimal:
• Cleanse
• One toner (a few times a week)
• A mist for hydration (not necessary—I just enjoy it)
• 1–2 serums max (usually one active + one barrier serum, depending on what I’ve used the previous days so I don’t overdo actives)
• Moisturizer
• SPF in the mornings
I got into skincare because of @skincarewithshelbs —she has such great content, so I fully blame her for this addiction 😂 Go follow her if you haven’t already.

Ultimately, TikTok offers a treasure trove of skincare inspiration, but what works for one may not work for all. Testing affordable, well-formulated products and paying attention to how your skin reacts can guide you in building a routine that’s effective and enjoyable. Remember, consistency, gentle care, and listening to your skin’s needs will always be the foundation of healthy skin.
