Wow, thinking back to my trip to the British Virgin Islands, especially Tortola, still gives me goosebumps! The original post just scratches the surface of how truly magical this place is. When we first flew in, the aerial views were absolutely breathtaking. I remember looking out the plane window, seeing the vivid turquoise waters surrounding countless green islands – it was like a painting coming to life. You really get a sense of how pristine and untouched the BVI are from above. Seeing Tortola's coastlines and even the Road Town harbor from that perspective was incredible; it instantly set the tone for an unforgettable adventure. Beyond the stunning MARE AZZURRO House (which, seriously, was pure perfection with its infinity pool overlooking those spectacular sunsets!), there's so much more to explore on Tortola. We spent some days just driving around, discovering hidden coves and pristine beaches. Smuggler's Cove quickly became a favorite for its calm, crystal-clear water – perfect for a lazy afternoon swim. Another must-visit is Cane Garden Bay, famous for its lively atmosphere, beach bars, and vibrant local music. It’s a great spot to catch a sunset with a rum punch in hand! And don't even get me started on the food! We found some amazing local spots serving fresh seafood that was out of this world. You absolutely have to try the conch fritters and grilled fish. The local markets are also fantastic for fresh fruit if you want to make some healthy snacks back at your villa. One of the absolute highlights of staying on Tortola is how incredibly easy it is to island hop. We took a ferry over to St. John for a day trip, and it was so much fun. The journey itself is picturesque, gliding over those impossibly blue waters, often with views of smaller, uninhabited cays. St. Thomas is another popular option, offering a different vibe with more shopping opportunities and a bit more hustle and bustle. It really gives you the best of both worlds – the serene beauty of Tortola and the chance to experience other vibrant Caribbean islands, all within easy reach. For anyone planning a trip, my top tip would be to rent a car (they drive on the left!) to truly explore Tortola at your own pace. The roads can be winding, but the views around every corner are so worth it. And if you’re into snorkeling or diving, the BVI underwater world is just as captivating as what you see above. I literally spent hours marveling at the colorful marine life and vibrant coral reefs. Mare Azzurro House offered such a perfect base for all our adventures, making every evening a luxurious retreat after a day of exploring. It's not just a house; it's an experience that encapsulates the true spirit of the British Virgin Islands. Trust me, you'll fall in love with Tortola just like I did!
