Let’s dive a little into trauma….

➖➖➖➖

Our brains are wired for connection, but trauma rewires them for protection. That’s why healthy relationships are hard for people with trauma.

Let’s dive a little more into trauma….

Trauma comes back as a reaction, not a memory.

People with trauma often need more information about a current situation as possible. This isn’t to be annoying (although it can be to someone who doesn’t understand), but it’s because we’ve lived with so much uncertainty with things out of our control that we need more info to feel safe.

Trauma survivors often get into the habit of spending a lot of time alone.

Alone = safe. Alone means we have some control. We understand and trust alone. Others are often unpredictable, so being alone means there is less risk to manage.

Remember—your trauma is valid even if…

· You can’t remember it properly

· It’s been years since it happened

· It didn’t make you “stronger”

· You haven’t told everyone about it

· Someone else didn’t think it was a big deal

Lastly, here are 10 tips to help heal from trauma:

1. Acknowledge it happened

2. Accept support

3. Don’t rush healing

4. Focus on your physical health too

5. Practice self-care

6. Do something creative daily

7. Meditate or practice mindfulness

8. Avoid addictions

9. Gratitude journal

10. Set yourself up a good routine (this helps with predictability)

Engaging with supportive communities, seeking therapeutic interventions, and practicing mindfulness can foster recovery. It's essential to acknowledge that everyone's trauma experience is unique; validation is key. Building healthy routines helps create predictability, crucial for those with trauma histories. Moreover, creative outlets, like journaling or art, serve therapeutic purposes, offering expression and relief. Empathy and support from friends can significantly influence recovery. Make sure to prioritize your mental and physical health, and remember, recovery takes time and patience. For resources, look into local mental health services or online platforms dedicated to mental wellness.
